Tuning Help

Hey guys, so I own a fully built evo X that got tuned by a local shop in Calgary alongside John Whalen, I paid 1100$ for the tune and they tuned me on a low waste gate spring so they could only get 18psi out of the turbo. I upgraded the spring only to now over boost like crazy. In the mean time said local shop that I won’t name decided to stop doing evos and completely dropped me, I don’t have another shop to go to and I’ve taken multiple courses on how to tune so I’m more than comfortable making some minor boost adjustments. So I purchased a tactrix cable, got tephra and ecuflash and for about the past week I haven’t been able to access my map. I’ve ready up on the PDF file made by tephra I believe ? And followed all the instructions and I still can’t access it. I’ve been at it for over a week now, my car hasn’t been tuned for over a year and I’m beyond frustrated, I’m willing to pay someone to FaceTime/screen share/ however you wanna do this, to get me into my f***ing map so I can adjust my god damn boost and not have to worry about sending a rod through the hood. TIA

What error is ecuFlash giving you when you try to pull down your tune?

I’m not getting an error, I’ve gotten to the point where I got Tephra to write me a new V3 ROM and XML and they both open up a base evo X map and I can see and edit everything just fine, mine is a V1 however and even after getting the XML to match my ROM (both are 55570106) I still can’t get ecu flash to read my map. I was told by John it’s not locked so I’m not sure what’s going on... not getting an error or anything I just can’t read my map.

User error. I would suggest getting an E-tuner to remote access your machine and set everything up for you.

It's kind of hard to tell where your having a problem based on your description. So for the basics, you are using a tactrix 2.0 cable correct? When you plug it in to your PC does ecuflash recognize it ( bottom right should change from No vehicle Interface to something like tactrix 2.0)? Can you transfer files back and forth to the micro SD card on the 2.0?
In Ecuflash there is a drop down menu called "ECU" -> Select Vehicle Type, do you have "Evo X MH8106F CAN Vehicles MH8106F" selected?

Hey, so yes, I am using a tactrix 2.0 yes. When I got said shop that tuned my car to look at the issues I’m having the guy told me “you need tephra” (and has been ghosting me since) so I misunderstood and got tephra to write me a V3 ROM+XML. Afterwards I couldn’t figure out how to get into the ecu, so he sent me the file I mentioned earlier on tuning an evo. Yes, my tactrix readys my ecu and I have my map extracted and saved on my laptop. I used to have options of choosing a vehicle and had that type selected, after I read the file it told me to change the XML and ROM locations in the ecu flash locations so I have all of my ROMs and XMLs under the evox folder in ecu flash and I no longer have that option. However I can still pull my rom. I’ve tried viewing the V3 tephra wrote me and It pulls up a stock map with all the graphs and everything I need. When I try to pull my ROM up it won’t come up the same way since I need a definiton. So I’m not sure what the issue is. All my ROM and XML files are in the same folder and the V3 files tephra wrote me work just fine. The XML won’t read my ROM. And yes I have a v1 XML (106) for my v1 ROM but it still won’t read.

It sounds like you don't have the correct XML for your ROM ID, so start there. What is the ROM ID of the rom you pulled off your ECU?

The rom ID I pulled is 5570106, I found a corresponding XML that does not seem to work. Tephra wrote me a ROM and XML ID’d 5570306 which I can access. So currently I cannot access my 5570106 ROM ID. I’m assuming my ECuFlash settings are correct, cause if they weren’t I would have issues accessing my 5570306 maps aswell which I can access no problem so there’s gotta be something I’m missing here...

I'm assuming that you want to read your v1 rom's maps and paste them into your v3 rom. You can read and edit your v3 rom but you cannot read and edit your v1 rom. Is it right?

If it ’s not troublesome, follow the steps below and post what happens.
  1. Download 55570005 2010 USDM-5MT-Evolution X.xml.
  2. Download 55570006 2010 USDM-5MT-Evolution X.xml.
  3. Download TephraXMOD-V1-55570106.zip.
  4. Extract TephraXMOD-55570106.hex and TephraXMOD-55570106.xml from TephraXMOD-V1-55570106.zip.
  5. Remove your currently installed 55570005.xml, 55570006.xml definitions from your ecuflash's 'rommetadata/mitsubishi/evo/' folder.
  6. Paste the 55570005 2010 USDM-5MT-Evolution X.xml, 55570006 2010 USDM-5MT-Evolution X.xml, and TephraXMOD-55570106.xml into your ecuflash's 'rommetadata/mitsubishi/evo/' folder.
  7. Open TephraXMOD-55570106.hex by your ecuflash and check if it works.

hey man, so I just deleted the files I had and re-downloaded them along with the new 106 you linked me. I can open the hex file and I just opened up my map. I guess my XML file didn’t wanna work, is there a website where I can find those definitions ? Other then the base ones from rallinspired, I already know about those but like the ones codes to the ecu ? Thanks a lot for the help, hopefully after I go over it tomorrow after work my car will finally run properly after over a year of being in the shop and ridden with problems.
