Tune in Vegas or drive 4 hours to 5150
Tune in Vegas or drive 4 hours to 5150
Hey guys, I’m going to need a tune soon after I install the rest of my bolt ons. I’ve looked online for any tuners in Vegas and I only found really old posts. I only know of Devin with All Access Tuning, Doug’s dyno, and Church (comes to Vegas fairly often) The problem is, I cannot get a hold of Devin, Church’s dyno in Vegas broke recently, and I don’t know much about Doug.
So I’ve been thinking of just driving down to 5150 to get a tune. Only thing is, is that I will be full bolt ons, ETS intake, intercooler, upper and lower intercooler piping, turbo back exhaust with o2 dump and test pipe, and grimspeed 3 port ebcs. Do you guys think I’ll make it ok if I stay off boost the whole way there? Any feedback is appreciated! Thanks all!

Hey i have a 10 with similar mods and I've been in your same situation. you should be able to run the intake, intercooler, CBE, and the boost controller (configured for stock use) without a tune and it should do fine but anything else i would not recommend installing without a tune. if i were you i would buy an access port. you can install everything and run an ots tune for the time being, but even then i would lay off the boost because the ots tunes tend to overboost allowing upwards of 33 psi. god forbid you lean out and blow your motor on the way there, but thats ur best bet on driving it there with everything installed. otherwise you'll just have to install what you can and take all the parts there and pay somebody to put them on for you before the tune.
Doug should be avoided at all costs. Even just using his dyno with another tuner, he will play with the numbers. Devin is fine, but your experience is not unique with it being difficult to reach him. 5150 couldn't tune his way out of a shoe box.
A lot of us have English Racing tune our cars, they come down twice a year to do a dyno tuning day, the next one will be in march/april. And Aaron is very easy to get a hold of for post tune support if there are any issues. If you have a wideband you can also set it up for data logging and hit up ER directly for a remote tune.
I admin the Vegas Evos FB pages, send an add request.

I’m gonna be installing the down pipe, test pipe, and ebcs right before I take the drive to tune the car. I’m going to baby it all the way there and keep my eyes on the boost and afrs. Hopefully, we make it there with no problems or trouble. I really can’t justify buying an accessport just to get a pro tune anyway. I know it’s “insurance” but $500 + is a lot of money especially after all the parts I just bought ughhh.
I’ve heard nothing but good things about 5150. I thought they were one of the best? And thanks for the input on Doug. If only I could get in contact with Devin sigh. March is too far along for me to wait to get it tuned sadly. Any more feedback on 5150?
Thanks for the help guys!

Dont go there. i just got tuned by Jon at 5150 Racing. He showed up an hour and a half late from when my appointment would be, He showed up. Didnt even apologize at all. Didn't even greet me. He did a full Flex fuel tune on my car in less then 2 hours. After the dyno session He did not drive my car on the road. He just told me it was done and to drive it. I do not know the area so i was not able to really drive it hard at all by his shop. Once i got back home which is a 4 hour drive my car had huge boost cuts/ spark cut issues shifting between gears. Jon or Ian took about 3-4 weeks to get back to me. another week to send me a new map still the same issue. Hes horrible and the customer service sucks. My car still does not run correctly and im over trying to deal with that business. I would not suggest him for any car being tuned. i asked a ton of questions done not answered and the lead time for a response is crazy.
