Pre-existing Tephra

I bought an SE that's had lots of mods done to it, and tunes. I had it flashed to a basemap 93 octane so I could drive it back home. I intend to tune it myself.
I know it has a tephra mod, because twice I've seen the MIL flash on a pull indicating knock, which is Tephra mod feature. I have not tuned any cars before, but have a lot of "book smarts" on emissions and performance.

Before I plug my cables in, and read whats in my car into ECU flash, is there anything I should know before hand? I have no problem purchasing it if I have to, but I'm not sure if it's a hard flash that modified my ECU, or if I reflash it with my own MAPs I'm going to lose the Tephra functionality.

Thanks

(I guess you bought a second hand car) If you have a TephraMOD pre-installed on your car, you can read it, modify it and write it using ecuflash without losing the functionality of TephraMOD. But if it is V2 or V3, I think you should buy it from tephra to get supports by him.

Correct, it was originally built by a board member and traded in this community. The owner before me ran E85 and slipped the SST clutches, then dumped it at a dealer in Florida.
Even if I drop 7k on clutches, a heated sump, tune, and all the good stuff, it's still a good deal.

Thanks for the info. I just want to get the car running better till I get can get it to Kozmic in the summer. I only have 91 up here, so I want to pull the timing back.

If the SST slipped by the car's torque, the new parts may be better with enhanced SST clutches.

just in case.
You should first read and save(backup) the pre-installed rom with TephraMOD function with ecuflash.
Editing and writing it will not erase the function of TephraMOD. But once you write a rom without TephraMOD, of course, the function will disappear.

You can check whether a rom has TephraMOD function or not by looking at the ID. (For example, 52680122 has TephraMOD-V1, 52680322 has TephraMOD-V3, and 52680022 is without TephraMOD.)

With my mods, Kozmic recommended the 12 disc clutch. I wanted to retain some driveability and longevity so they recommended against the 14 disc.

So the 6th digit indicates the version, with 0 being non existent.
Very good info, thanks a ton for clearing that up for me. +1
