Part III: Tuned Evo X [more than 50% power gains over stock!]
So we did some more dyno testing yesterday. The only new mod we did was to shorten the threaded the wastegate rod by 3 turns. Didn't make a stich of difference to top end boost taper. Still falls to 15-16psi by 7000rpm.
We tested/tuned on 91oct and on a 96oct blend. Testing conditions were appox 80f.
Dyno Results (91oct and 96oct):
Here are the results:
With additional tuning, on 91oct, it made a solid 310whp. This time we were able to pick up a bit of top end power. Now it makes peak power at a lofty 7200rpm. I'm sure additional mods (intercooler, piping, intake, etc,.) can and will help out further.
As expected, we could run a bit leaner with 2-3.5 degrees more ignition advance on the race gas blend. Boost levels were not changed. Clearly we could have gotten a lot more aggressive but that really wasn't the point of the exercise. Still, 320-325whp is 996tt territory. This mildly modified car is already making more power on 96oct than any stock turbo'd evo IX ever did, regardless of mods and gas octane.
When bone stock, the car made just 210-215whp on this dyno. Which means that we picked up over 45% more power on 91oct. And over 50% more power on the mild race gas blend. That is HUGE. I don't know of any other car that does that without some sort of turbo upgrade. Rejoice

Thats awesome Shiv. Is this with the tune and catback only? What about a downpipe, is one in the works? Headers? O2 housing? Intake? I know you mentioned that a front mount would help, and it seems to have made a nice difference in AMS' tests. I wish that you guys could team up, since you're the only one with tuning software for the X right now, and they seem to have the best bolt-ons, and a lot of them already. I would be curious to see their car, (which has an 87 whp gain over stock already with intake, upper ic pipe, front mount, cat back, and mbc), plus a tune by you with your proceed, or whatever it is that you're using. This would give everybody a good idea of the limitations of the stock turbo. Either way, great job so far man, it's awesome to see the gains of the car with such little work done to it. The x should be a beast! I am picking mine up in about a week. Can't wait!

YIKES ! !! When u gonna start selling this stuff man, i'm ready for a tune.. hehe. My 05 was 400whp on a dynojet with a BUNCH of mods.. including cams, TBE, Intercooler w/pipes, rod bolts, intake, MBC, E85 Tune, walbro, 1000cc injectors... lol very lengthy list.... but i guess what i'm getting to is this thing feels slow... compared to my 05.
Shiv from what i understand this is with no mods at all? other than the tune of course.... l'me know .. SWEET....

DAMN!!! still just a 3" Exhaust is just retarded how well it responds... you still expecting the 400whp mark on a dynojet with the rest of basic bolt ons... (basically your tune w/all the AMS bolt on they got on it. I'm soo excited ! ! ! !
Any timeframe on when it might be for sale?

Amazing.
Shiv, have you seen any issues as far as the ECU reverting back to stock? I understand your using a different type of tuning system, it's just that I've heard other tuners have had issues with the ECU reverting to stock power levels after a certain amount of time. cheers,

Shiv,
When will you be able to offer something like this to the EVO X community?
What would be the price point on this? approx?
I am waiting to hit the 500 mile mark, then the fun starts.
Thanks,
Chris
