Open filter testing EVO X

Did some testing today for the Evo X version of the GST Cone filter upgrade.

Amazed at the results so far...

Average +22whp / +22wtq gains!

Not only great power gains but it also greatly smoothed out the hiccups that the stock Evo X seems to have. Still uses the OEM factory air scoop and lid that brings in cool fresh air from the front of the vehicle.

More testing coming.

Stock vs GST open filter:

The average +22whp/+22wtq was taken at 5400 rpm. The bump in power at 6500 is from a littler leaner AFR and holding boost

2 pulls back to back with filter:

AFR and boost between stock and filter, dotted lines are stock:

As you can see the filter let the car run more boost through the midrange but it looks like the ECU brought it back down at 6500. AFR's are about the same until 5500 rpm or so, where they go a little leaner, maybe max .3 AFR, but still in the low 10's.

------------------------------------------------

Then I put on some boost control just for giggles and the Evo X made an additional 26whp to make it 280whp. Matched the OEM boost peak of 23.5psi. However I think the turbo held a bit too much boost up top for the factory tune and 91 octane as the curves weren't the smoothest.

Brought the boost control down to 22psi peak (less than stock), but still held a bit more than stock up top. Did four runs back to back, smoother curves and average was 275whp. That is a 44whp gain over stock.

I can't wait to start tuning these suckers.

That looks like a pretty substantial loos down low - can you feel that driving around? Coming from an STi, I don't think I could take any more losses down low with an X.

Loss? The filter gained power everywhere.

If you cannot read a dyno plot, do not post.

There is clearly gain everywhere. You are reading the 2nd plot completely wrong.

Pics of the setup? Great results. Does it smooth out the jerky WOT pulls? Mine seems to be somewhat jerky... almost like small RPM jumps...

No pics yet as we are still testing out some variations. The open filter did smooth out the powerband but some little tugs still exist. The huge trademark tug at 6500 that we have felt on 3 Evo 10's on our dyno has been smoothed out though.

I'm looking to get logs very soon. We have CAN logger but had some issues logging on this car. I don't think anyone as posted data logs of the Evo 10 yet here. We will be. Full disclosure.

You mean to tell me that on the first plot, there is NOT a loss in HP and torque below 3,200ish RPM?!?!

It's probably from me not being 100% exact in when I went WOT between each pull.

On this chart, 2 pulls back to back with the open filter you can see the slight differences down low as well:

I will be doing more testing very soon as well and will try to be a little more exact with my starting RPM when I go WOT.

I did the same thing and it did wake the car up, but I didn't notice the hiccup in the tune smoothing out at all. Actually I thought it was more noticable.
