Notchy Gear Box when car not moving?

I figured I'd start a new thread because I figured something out. I noticed that the notchy feel still occurs in the shifter when the car isn't even moving. If the car is at a stop light and with the clutch depressed, if you shift around between the first 3 or 4 gears it has the same notchy feel in the knob. Granted it's less pronounced than when driving the cars, but it's still noticeably there. It even does the same thing when the car is turned off. Has anyone else noticed this? This tells me that the problem might lie in the linkage, not the synchros. Perhaps the linkage needs to be adjusted, or the cables need to be adjusted. This would also explain why some people's notchy feel seems to be getting better while others aren't. Perhaps based on driving style, like more agressive shifting, the linkage loosens up a bit and starts to smooth out. Who knows, but Mitsubishi if you are reading this, invesigate this further. I think that the problem may be simpler than initially most of us thought.

The Evo X i test drove at Key Mitsu over the weekend with 16 miles on it already had a grind going into 2nd. The transmission is icky on this car.

I've played with it at stop lights..
Mine is still notchy but if I go back and forth like 5times, the 6th time is smoother. (1st->2nd)

I've never "grinded" the gears in my car. So my notchyness isnt as bad as others.

Why does it not feel notchy when shifted while driving briskly? Does the linkage change as you drive faster? Maybe the linkage is defective, like, it was not cast in the correct design for smooth shifting?

Do the JDM Evo's have shifting issues?

Damn. Everytime now theres more and more issues with this car. This is why i never buy a new car on its first year of production. That way all the bugs, recalls and tsbs can be worked out

I must have gotten lucky. My transmission is like butter and I have driven another at the dealer and it was also very smooth. It is no S2000 tranny or anything, but compared to my old EVO it is like silk.

This isn't a new issue, it's the same notchy issue that has been here since day one. There aren't many things wrong with the car, this is really the only one. Some people have idling issues, but that's not a biggie, especially with a dealer reflash coming out in april. Anything non mechanical isn't a big deal. The notchy issue will eventually get figured out and it'll be all good. It really is a pretty well made car, all in all.

I will try this in the morning...I just want to ask this, does anyone else have problems putting the car in reverse once you start the car up?

^ Yes sometimes I have to go into first gear and then to reverse. I am used to this though because I had to do it on my EVO 8.

I knew that thing had to be coated with some narcotics that absorb into your skin for that price...
ARC stuff is pretty though...

Maybe it is because, ARC shift knob is heavier. Maybe. it is due to it shortens the shifter little bit.

Maybe the super super duper titanum coating absorbs in to your system and frys your brain.

It feels better. LOL

But transmission issue is coming back now. It must be wearing off. LOL
