I do like the fact that its by the fenderwell but the gains are not as good as the AMS from what I can tell.

CAI will have negligible effects on a turbo car, IMO. It's not like a NA car where the cold air actually goes right into the engine. With a turbo the "cold" air just get heated during compression and sent through some hot pipes, thus negating any of the CAI benefits. You're better off getting a bigger IC and piping instead of an expensive CAI. Besides, the X has "cold" air routed to the intake area in stock form.

how would you explain the significant gains people are getting with just an intake?

Oh, i completely recommend an intake, just a CAI will have little, if any performance benefits over a regular short ram.

did you install it yourself? Did it come with clear instructions? I havent even looked at the engine bay of the X and was wondering if its a self install or not. I have access to a lift and do my own work on my cars, but there is some stuff I draw a line at

Depends on your objective? Are you after styling or functionality. Almost all of the aftermarket intakes are yielding the same results. Personally I like the works drop in filter. Maintina 100% stock configuration and add 20whp.

Take that statement, compare price and looks then make your decision and you'll be happy.

our intake only requires an oil catch can if you decide to not opt for the additional fittings on the intake. Please read the bottom of the description: http://www.amsperformance.com/store/...oducts_id=1873

I went with the AMS and wouldn't change a thing, the performance gains are good and the added turbo sound is great! Fit and finish are top notch. You don't necessarily have to run the catch can, I am planning on running one on mine but for now don't have it and don't have the welded on bungs I just have it venting towawrds the ground. When I checked the tube that should connect to the catch can though there is no signs of any oil yet. ~Trent
