took the x to the track
hey guys . well took out my x to the track for the first time . my first time driving awd car . everything stock but for a 24 dollars filter. two runs first 9.172 with a r/t of .852 60's of 2.133 second run was a little better 8.968 r/t .535 60's 1.935. all this was in a 1/8 track but the car was smelling really bad. clutch burning up . what kind of clutch do they have out there .

ACT is what I have in my X and we've done about 60 runs with it at the track so far .
i was a little afraid my first awd car used to race a civic best time was a 7.1 on 1/8 launching of the 2step preloading my trans. but on the evo i was afraid i was told about the transfer case can go out on me so what i was doing i would preload (get the ebreak and rev to 5k and slip the clutch a little bit till the car starts to move ). what are you guys doing to launch the car .

We're launching the car at 5,500 and we slip it a bit , the clutch is still holding 100% . Many just do not understand what pre-loading a tranny is and they just dump it and go , then they wonder why the clutch goes or the drivetrain crews up . I always tell my customers to first learn how to drive their new set-up then worry about trying to launch on someone .

I usually describe my technique like this; when I let the clutch out during a launch, the uptake speed of the pedal is similar to how I let it out when shifting gears during normal daily driving. Smooth and quick, but not like the speed at which the clutch is in and out during speed shifting. Is this "preloading" of the tranny just another term for slipping the clutch as opposed to popping it?

preloading the tranny a way i learned it :
first gear, clutch down. Go to your desired launch RPM, /different with different tires and on tarmac and gravel or rain or snow etc/
you apply e-break and you hold it / not fully, just to hold the car standing still . Then slowly start releasing the clutch pedal until the car want to move forward but can't, and also slowly you reach your launch rpm again . If you have a two step ,then its easier. You also apply more and more e-break power just keep the car standing still, Do not over break it.
So you kind of try to hover on your RPM and the e-brake power with out moving.
Then when its a green light you release the e-break and go. But maybe some one can explain better then i do.
This technic have alots of advantage. Safer for your drive train, and more control on the launch on different surface etc.

yeah rob thats preloading the same thing i do . i did it on my civic and i did it on the evo and it works pretty good but the clutch smell pretty bad you have to do it just right dont slip it to much or you will burn the crap out of it .
just put the ACT 6 puck Street/race rating at 537 lbs of torque and it is awesome. Is that the same one you guys are running over at xtreme boost.
Pre loading the drivetrain is not the best idea in my opinion..First of all there is certainly not enough lash to justify doing it, secondly it heats up and wears your clutch friction surface as well as the flywheel at the worst possible time (before you launch) thirdly if you are not a ninja chances are you will be launch before the rear brake is fully disengaged causing un needed stress on the center diff. I have been drag racing AWD mitsubishis for 10 years now and I have never done this, nor have I ever broken a T-case..But again it's just my opinion, feel free to do what you think is right.

And we would be MUCH faster if we had bigger tires on , its running so f'ing sweet now but we have no traction
