Installing UR downpipe
Installing UR downpipe
This is a question for you guys who have installed a downpipe on the X. Okay so yesterday i got my test pipe installed and came across some trouble but eventually got it on. I also tried to install the downpipe but couldnt find a way to get the bolts off. they are in a awkward position and dont really know whats the best way to get to it. should i go from the bottom or the top? how did you guys do it?
I dont know what others went thru with UR DP and TP but the shop that installed it had a very hard time with them, the jig they use must be off a good amount we ended up having to use a flex piece to get it not crushing against the body of the car.
Very poor pipe fitment. Almost sent the stuff back!

When you do get the stock one off, put our downpipe up (do not connect to the cat pipe yet), and you'll need to get up there with your hand and catch some of the threads on the drivers side first. Then the passenger side. Then you should be able to use your extension again.
Hope this helps.

It's possible that you tightened the downpipe to cat pipe bolts first (which is a big no no for installation of exhaust pieces) causing the system to pull to an awkward angle.

Their jig is not off! Its just a beeotch to get to.
Here's what I did. Do everything from the bottom of the car. Remove the center (cat) pipe and the cross brace for access.
Get a swivel, two long extensions, one short extension for your 3/8 ratchet and take your time on it. The one on the driver side is the tougher one, but you can get at it from the back and help the socket onto the bolt. Its a bear if you have big hands, so get someone with average sized hands to help you.
It has a much higher learning curve than the IX and VIII downpipe, but once you figure out your angles of attack, its not that bad. Do not attempt without a swivel.

maybe you should put instructions in with your dp
I doubt our jig is off. We've sold more downpipes than I can count and we've yet to have any fitment problems. The space is tight, but everything fits well.

Theres absolutely nothing wrong with their products, it's all top notch. Didn't have a single problem installing it other then the PITA it was to get to the bolts, but even then I wouldn't consider that a problem or UR's fault.
Just wanted to add to the thread after installing my UR Downpipe and Mini-Muffler Test Pipe. The stock downpipe location is a pain in the **** to get to, but if you can get 11-12" of total extension on your 3/8 sockets along with a short 14mm socket and swivel, they should break loose no problem. The angles to get to the bolts are a lot less intuitive than the Evo 8/9 but it's not as bad as it first looks. Be sure to use anti-sieze putting the bolts back in which really helps turning them most of the way in by hand on re-assembly.
