I got the Ultimate Racing intake. It was only $150. It looks good, and performs and sounds great.

This is a good thing, if you want quick bang for the buck, because leaning it out = more power on the X. However, most shops offering ECU reflashes require you to use either their intake or the stock one, because they cannot tell how much every other intake is changing the MAF signal.

So, the buschur racing intake uses the stock MAF housing, and the AMS one does not. I'm assuming, but not certain, that the buschur racing intake will be more compatible with other shops tuning the X than the AMS one would. However, i would guess that the AMS would show more power gains on a stock ecu, because it will lean the A/F ratio out a little more than the buschur. After you get a tune, the differences will be negligble, since the A/F ratio will be properly tuned.

This is a much more important characteristic than steel vs aluminum, IMO.
This is one reason I went with AMS since the stock MAF housing is somewhat small and I wanted to get rid of that restriction in one shot. For sure it will lean out the mixture but as far as I know it is a safe amount that actually works well to lean out a pig rich stock tuned car. I'll be happy with an AMS mail in flash or a custom dyno tune and while the results will be very similar after tuning compared to other intakes, I'll have bought it once the right way in my book. :P

Is the AEM out yet? What's the price on it?

EDIT: NVM, I found the AEM thread on the next page.

Aem is out and it's $ 309 but I like the agp one that's got the filter located down by the fenderwell. It's $279 and they claim that, "On a bone stock car, we were able to pick up 30ft/lbs of torque and 25whp because of the cooler charge air, less restriction, and the intake allows the engine to naturally lean out an average of .5 on the Air Fuel Meter. This is an excellent first modification on every Evolution X."

I have the ETS, I chose it because it came with the 5" KN filter and it relocates the BOV under the vent on the hood which gives it a nice sound for a stock BOV. Its loud...

Best bang for the buck is AEM as it was made to be very cost efficient and make power.

Not really anymore than you would have gained from any of the dropin HKS, Works, or K&N. Seen dyno numbers on all these from 9hp to 17 hp. Import Tuner did Dyno on AMS intake and it only made 11hp, which you could have gotten out of a 32 dollar HKS filter or 55 dollar K&N Dropin.

We designed our intake with maximum performance in mind, thus the 5" inlet K+N filter, hand machined 5" aluminum MAF adapter/velocity stack that tapers perfectly to the ID of the MAF pipe and includes a recess for the factory dowel locating pin, shortened BOV inlet and discharge tubing for minimized intercooler system volume (for response and spool) with a louder BOV discharge as a side benefit , gradual recirc inlet angle that follows the flow for best possible transient response and a single mandrel bend in the intake piping for smoothest airflow to the turbocharger inlet. The filter is moved toward the driver's side and located right behind the headlight for access to the coolest possible incoming air and the entire system is braced to the chassis with an aluminum bracket for a factory fit and finish. Here are some pictures of the system components for those that haven't checked it out yet!

Pricing for the whole system is just $259

If anybody has any questions don't hesitate to get a hold of me
