No clutch change for 09....?

Spoke to a Mitsubishi service rep yesterday and I asked what if any changes may be made on the 2009's and I specifically asked if they planed to put in a better clutch and he told me what would you rather have break, the clutch or take out the transmission? He may not really know but I suspect he would know he seems to know everything else that is happening in the warranty claims regionally and nationally.

Anybody hear anything different?

I don't think that anyone knows what the revisions are going to be. It's too early to know and mitsu won't release anythng as of yet. I hope that they put a slightly bigger turbo on the car, kind of like what they did from the 8 to the 9, because this turbo sucks and has no ***** up top. They need to fix the synchro issue in the tranny, they need to get rid of the cheap *** harness hole covers on the seats and put somethng decent there, they need to use nicer, softer plastics in the interior, better cloth on the seats or make leather standard, put a pedal stop on the back of the gas pedal so that it can't stress the arm and snap, and for god's sake tune the damn ecu where it's not running so awfully rich. Did I forget anything... oh yeah, MAKE IT LIGHTER YOU JACKASSES! Rant over.

I love Mitsu's line of thinking... tranny is weak, so instead of making it stronger, they make the clutch weaker so it is not stressed as much.

I don't know if you've heard, or not, but the 10's transmission is a bit beefier than the 8/9.

According to Mitsubishi, it is. It seems like they just redesigned it and never tested it, because all I see on this boards is complaints about the X's manual tranny.

It was the same thing with 8/9's. It was the same thing with the 2g's and 1g's.
For whatever reason, Mitsubishi does not do well with transmissions. You'd think they'd learn after almost 20 years...

UMMMMMM.........you think?????

I have driven the X and compared with the 4g63 powered EVO, the X's transmission is by far the strongest and most precise EVO tranny I have ever had the privledge to shift.

It has no slack compared to the IX tranny, and seems rock solid!

This is a FIRST YEAR PRODUCTION VEHICLE!!!!!

People, when you buy a first year production run of anything, your also buying the right to be the test dummy. Your feedback, from your car and yourself, will help manufacturers build better products.

This is exactly why I am holding back a year, or two, before I buy the new EVO.

I don't want to be guinea pig!

Does anyone here remember the first production run of the 350Z (2003)? Well I do because I owned one. It feathered front tires so bad that every 3,000 miles the dealer would replace the front factory tires free of charge. Tranny had been replaced twice. I then bought a 2004 model and realized that the benefits of waiting were worth having a better car in the end.

Please, if you think Mitsu will be building a better transmission one year later than you''ll be waiting for a very long time.

I think you are missing the point of what I was saying. The X trans is beefier than the 8/9, but it isn't without issue itself. All of the DSM/EVO trans had issues, it's the nature of the beast.

The only changes there will be from 08-09 are the TSB's that have come out and are coming out for the 08's. What did Mitsu change from 03-04 on the VIII? Nothing. 05 they put a bigger hotside in. Still nothing major. In 09 my guess would be they'd rate the car at a slightly higher power level due to ECU tuning.

I see why their would be no clutch change.... Simple The tranny, diffs, and the rest of the drivetrain is a warranty part... Clutch which is a wear part... Which is then not covered under warranty so it costs mitsu. less money on warranty items as if your clutch goes they pretty much say too bad its a wear part and clearly in the warranty fine print it isn't covered.
