MR bounced off rev limiter in Sport auto mode
This morning, my MR bounced off the rev limiter in Sport auto mode.
Some details: I was doing 15mph in sport mode (auto) and the car was in D2 at the time. I gave WOT and the transmission shifted to D1. The car accelerated and I watched the revs as they approached 7k. At just before 7.5k (approx), I felt the rev limiter kick in and the car decelerated rapidly, before it finally shifted into D2.
I did not at any point touch the shifters. The car was in D (auto).
My car has 2k miles and has the WORKS drop in filter, and that's all.

Mine has done that a few times and I've modded quite a bit.
It seems that the car can't select the next gear quickly enough when accelerating that quickly, so it just revs all the way up until it can switch.
.....then again, that's just what it "seems" like to me. Could be anything.

OK, that's what I was fearing. I do notice a slight increase in power with the WORKS drop in, even though I don't have a flash, and it seemed as if the transmission changed a little too late before the rev limiter cut in.
I was going to change the exhaust and get a tune but now I am thinking I will wait. Bouncing off the rev limited obviously slows you down a lot. I am thinking this means that our cars will not take kindly to mods when used in Sport mode unless the transmission can be reprogrammed to avoid this kind of problem.
Have you seen the same problem in S-Sport mode?

I think you'll be safe with the Tune. I'm at 292whp/294wtq and drive pretty hard everyday and have not (knock on wood) had any problems other than sometimes bouncing off the Rev limiter.

Interestingly enough, this will ONLY happen if you are in D2 or D3 and it downshifts and then needs to upshift again. This does NOT happen from a stop. At least, it has never happened to me from a stop...

it still a brand new system. you cant expect it to preform perfectly... what you should be doing is emailing mitsubishi so they can note it and try to reproduce what you did.. this will let them fix it, either in programming or rapid evolution of the sst

It was performing perfectly before I added the air filter, so I'm not sure how Mitsu would react if I told them all the information - they'd probably void the warranty. I believe the transmission *may* be preset for the car in its stock form.
