drop in filter for the X
Well, i cant believe im asking this question since ive owned 3 Evos for years, but for those of you that have a X with a drop in filter.. Where can i get one locally? Maybe like a K&N or something i can get at a store.. Need it so it will lean the car out at least a bit
The best air intake is probably the AEM one. Comes with a dry filter element and an airbox that uses the stock inlet for sucking cold air.

Of course drop in filter is the easiest. So far HKS, Works, K&N, Ralliart and Blitz has them.

I love my AEM Intake. If you really want a drop in, order a K&N off one of the vendors here. However, the AEM intake is niiice... looks stock(ish) and is worth every penny.
Evo intake, if its not for drag race, for my point of view, is better if its in the box .
With cold air feeding tube. The incoming air in the turbo will be always cooler when its coming from the box, and basically after you start rolling you are charging the box with cool air. Also you constantly cooling the box too so the incoming air to the turbo will be never be as hot as the open element intake. Not even close.
I do believe you can max out the stock turbo with the stock intake box. So i see more use for cone filters when you got upgraded turbo. But even then i would put them in the air box /some after market one/.
The problem i see with the AEM , is still using the factory inlet... So basically it is using a same restrictive factory feeding tube. Only advantage in the other hand, i see in the JDM ones , at least they make a feeding tubes or inlet bigger.
Just my opinion. And experience.

The Works filter is a bit pricey...but I don't regret buying it. I don't know if it's much different than the K&N filter. Only reason I went with the Works was because i wanted to keep the stock airbox. Plus K&N at the time didn't have the drop-in for the X. Seems to breathe better on the butt dyno. The enhanced suction sound is a plus too.
Anyone have thoughts on the Ralliart drop-in? I planned on doing the works one, but the Ralliart is cotton as well. I also have a gift certificate that I can use for it.. ; )
However if it isn't as good as the works one, then I'll buy the works one and use the certificate on something else..
