Evo X O2/DP with external dump
Evo X O2/DP with external dump
The Xtremeboost X has been running an open wastegate dump for the last few months and we have had a few request to make more so here's what we just did today . We'll soon have some install pics and sound clips . Let me know what you guys think ...
This unit you're looking at is an external dump not an external wastegate . We will have another DP with the external dump . $495 for this unit the price for the external wastegate DP is not yet available .
I'd say a pro is: external dump is cheaper when you go with an external gate (doesn't have to be routed back into the dp)
con is: its really loud and those hot gasses are potentially damaging
I run an external on my GSX, and i've run an routed one too, I'll definatly say you can suprize some people when it dumps, that ish is LOUD

You do not see the added HP ? Well this is not the first time we do this and from pass dumps we did pick up about 5-10 hp on cars like an SRT-4 and some WRX's which is are like motors ( 4 baggers ) . The dumps does a few things . One is allows the exiting hot exhaust to exit the system on its own path which allows it to exit without creating extra turbulence in the system which actually makes just a bit of back pressure thus making you lose just that little bit of power . Also the exhaust is allowed to exit the system without any-other force acting on it - and fast exiting exhaust is a happy exhaust . The basic idea behind making power i a turboed car is to get air in the motor as fast and and cold as possible then get that hot residual exhaust gas out the motor as fast as possible with as little barriers in its way as possible .
Not sure where you're getting that the hot gases are "potentially damaging" not sure what you've seen and from what company but the correct way of using a dump is by exiting the gases away from any vital part . External dumps are NOTHING new in the tuner world . Just about every major company out that makes external dumps with all their turbo kits . Example : AMS which is here on this forum sell's their turbo kits with external dumps and I'm yet to see not one person complaint about those
..Running a dump is safe and done EVERYDAY by tens of thousands everywhere . The only damaging things are those done without care such as dumping the gases inside the engine bay or running a poorly install Meth/NOS/ water system ..
Thanks for your post all ideas and comments are always welcome

I definatly agree that free flowing exhaust is a bonus, and I could see some pick up from an alternate exhaust exit, but the main restriction is still the turbine wheel, and unless your dumping from the manifold (which your not) the gain has got to be pretty minimal.
now, I have absolutely no evidence to prove my theory aside from some DSMlink logs with a dp routed in and out, the gains were less than a fresh set of spark plugs and not consistant enough to be notable.
but i definatly dont do this for a living so, grain of salt and all that.

Correct on the wheel , but at WOT and lets say 20lbs every little bit does help . The question he asked I asked about 12 years ago when I got heavy into moding cars and it was a valid question . We did do testing years back when we got deep into the SRT-4 and in those motors we did see a gain - if I remember correct was like 9hp which came out of nowhere after we went to a dump and changed nothing else .
looking closely at the internals of the wastegate flapper you can see how when it opens the air is mostly directed downward at an angle into the path of the exiting air off the wheel . Ever been to a Walmart and got hit with a fast moving wall of air from on top the walk-in doors ? Thats there to keep the hot air from coming in , its a very well know fact that air moving fast will create blockage - thus why I pint out a simple example . I will be updating my site ( which god knows it needs some very serious updating ) to show some great explanations on Fluid-Dynamics and that will aid in these answers .
Thanks for your post
1) Can you guys get an in car vid at WOT so I can hear how loud it is?
2) Can you guys take a picture of where the gases/fire(heh) exits?
3) This mounts up to the stock setup correct? Sry had to ask...

Our car is currently apart as we're making a few parts including this one . We'll have some vids from inside and some "fly-bys" . Once installed on the car we'll also post pictures of the exit - its just on the side of the exhaust pipe its-self and away from any sort of vital part .
I could give you a quick video. its F'n LOUD, but it sounds pretty mean, I actualy like it thats why i haven't routed back into my DP.
it only gets noisy on a hard WOT pull at full boost, so its nice around normal traffic.

Good point, the path of least resistance definatly will get the flow, and I'll definatly say that different engines will respond differently to different mods, my set up is maxed for airflow by head restrictions, which I should have posted with my log reference. that restriction is most likely why I saw almost no gains
and as for the "possible damage" I had a the oil pressure sensor plastic clamp come undone dropping the wire loom into the path of my dump tube melting it and grounding out wires. the location of your Dump tube is basicaly eletronic free so I doubt your set up would have any issue.
as a bonus I think your DP is 3" and bigger than stock? I dont own an X yet, trying to sell a modded Cobra in this economy isnt easy. but when it goes I'll be getting one
Thanks for the post, debate = info spread = good
