^ Cool, I'd be interested to see that... would shearing be attributed to how hard you drive or how much whp you are packing? I don't drive my car hard at all... it's all stock and just using NJ's freebie tune (slightly modded)... still, my plan now is to do 5K intervals for the next 2 oil changes. At 15K miles, I'll swap out all the drivetrain fluids, then shoot for 7.5Kmile intervals.

By the way, what's the difference between regular Mobil 1 vs. Extended Performance? I can't find any info about additives, enchancements, etc.

M1 has less anti wear additives than M1 EP which IIRC is the old formula of M1 which they were famous for being so good. The shear is due to the high temps of the rear mounted turbo and the new 4b11 is not worn in yet and has higher fuel dilution. So the 0-40w should provide more protection in terms of viscosity.

The SSO is a good oil indeed. But your viscosity is going down as well. Same thing happened with the M1. The fuel and high heat kill oils much quicker in these cars.

yeah but not by much. my first test was at 9 but the resent one was 10.47
I went more miles last time I dont know. I think for the wear its really good in my books
but its expensive.
I think Castrol Edge or Castrol German is cheaper

You think they can make the best engine on the planet in a car for under $40,000? That's insane.

You are justifying switching oil to a 'better' brand because you think Mobil1 isn't good enough? I think you would be hard pressed to find an engine failure nowadays that was solely caused by inadequate oil.

There are hundreds of threads on oil for the evo and all I can say is that the topic has been BEAT TO DEATH so please SEARCH.

at any rate... ran 0w30 on my VIII at 7500 intervals with fantastic UOAs, planning on doing a 10k interval eventually on my X.
You really checked AMSOil's site to see how much oil you need? Try the owners manual.

M1 is recommended thats what you should use. The biggest thing about oil is that you should change every three thousand miles even using amsoil I would change it every three heat breaks it down why waste the extra money on more expensive oil when you are just going to change it at the same time hell you could prob use conventional oil for three thousand miles too with no problems. I use M1 thats what it calls for thats what it gets.

There is a pretty big selection for engine oils from AMSOIL so correct me if im wrong but...
1. SSO is for longer oil change intervals
2. ASL would be used for track days
3. XLF and ATM would be used most likely for daily driving correct?

There is also the dominator oils.

Redline has a good line up as well.

0w-40 and 5w-50 Racing oils. But they cost a lot compared to M1. I used M1 in all my cars and I never had engine issues. I will continue to use M1. It works and it is cost effective. It might not be the BEST (but there is no best oil) all depends on application.

actually that's incorrect and there are tests to prove that AMSoil does NOT break down nearly as quick as other oils... please don't make ignorant statements unless you can back them up with proof.

Just switched to Amsoil 5w30 just to give it a shot. Honestly I have no idea if its a better oil or not. I think its hard to tell for a DD. Maybe if youre tracking the car, minor differances become more apparent, but for the majority of people any quality synthetic would be fine. Only way to really tell is a blackstone analysis///

Thats correct only way to tell is analysis back to back on different oils, or you can look at some of the data thats out there and will help you decifer whats best for your multi thousand investment.
