Which bolt-on turbo to get? FP red, Artisan, Garrett, etc etc etc
I thought the Artisan is just a compressor wheel upgrade? If so I wouldn't consider it as we already run high EGT's with the stock turbine wheel. I have to wonder what they are trying to push that larger compressor wheel? The FP Red which I decided to get has upgraded wheels on both sides and spools up great. FP is well known to test their products well and the red is well known to make over 500 WHP easily. Will it outflow a GT30R? No idea but I'm eager to find out. That being said the bolt on Garrett upgrade looks great! The bigger AR hot side is an attractive feature I wish we had for the Red but considering the smaller exhaust ports on the EVO X head who knows if it will make as much difference on the X than on the VIII and IX. All tons of variables that is hard to determine without some more dyno test comparisons.
I HAVE a question ANYONE. Can you get boost creep from truning the BOV wrong? Instead on dumping the air in the intake pipe, I saw it dump back in the intercooler piping. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE ANSWER THIS?
I have one of the original Artisan turbos. With a mail in flash I made 428whp on my car with stock injectors and all the bolt ons. I was limited by the fact that it was a mail in AMS flash and I had stock injectors. This was also when the ECUTEK had just first come out so everybody was still trying to figure it out. I was never able to take my car at the 428whp to the track. I always had to lower it to about 390whp due to boost cut. Like that I ran 11.70@115.
My car is down right now doing some heavy upgrading. I'm going to be sending my turbo back to them for their newest addition which offers a compressor and turbine wheel upgrade. I expect to keep up with the other stock appearing turbo guys. We will see
P.S. The FP Red is one bad *****. I am going to keep my Artisan but there is no question the FP Red is a sick turbo.

Boost creep is completely unrelated to the BOV. Boost creep is when you can't wastegate enough exhaust around the turbine wheel. Therefore the exhaust gas goes through the turbine wheel speeding it up too far creating more boost than designed.
For $1000, the Artisan is not a bad turbo if you can rn 11.7 with it. It would depend on how fast it would spool up compared to stock. It might be too small for someone looking at 500whp.
500whp is definitely too much for the Artisan. 500 crank maybe, but not at the wheels. Its a quick spooler with decent power potential, and more DD type turbo than a Red.
FP Red is a great daily driver. I use my car on a daily basis and the Red spool up is perfect. Great transient response and much more power capacity than just a compressor wheel upgrade.
