keep the gas pedal to the floor when you shift, and if your clutch is grabbing high like most evos dont press it all the way, half way would do. You are releasing the clutch at the wrong time that's why its doing that. or just not shifting fast enough.

The clutch is probably part of my problem, has anyone been able to adjust the clutch on the X? I looked into it, but couldn't crawl under the dashboard to see anything.....

Try turning the traction control off whenever you do redline shifts from 1st to 2nd. I know when I shift fast from 1st to 2nd the traction control will kick in.

Also I agree with EVIL_EVO_VIII. When I shift I slam gears and pop the clutch as fast as I can without any problems

When you decide to take your car suddenly, ***** to the wall, WOT, you redline the car, and you shift from 1st to 2nd gear, how do you get it to go smooth? The car jerks back and forth almost violently when I shift. I can't figure out how to do it.

The clutch grabs very high off of the floor, at the top of the pedal actually. Could this be the problem? I don't know how to adjust it. Has anyone else experienced the same problems?

2nd'ed. With traction control off I can slam it into 2nd at redline and chirp the tires into 2nd, yes the shifts are a little violent but what do you expect when your at WOT shifting for it to change gears like a lexus?

Wow... and we wonder why Mitsu routinely denies warranty claims on Evos.

Could you elaborate a bit more on this idea? It sure does sound like NLTS, right?

Every one has there own technique. I for one have had it happen to me a more then a few times at first. For me Throttle position was key when releasing the clutch. First to Second gear is where the finesse was mostly needed. The other gears didn't seem to be as bad. Try and to release the gas as fast as your puting in the clutch. It takes a second for the tach to drop down. By the time your clutch is reingaging the tach will be down a couple of thousand rpms and then your back to WOT again. Since the rpms shoot to redline so quickly in first gear its hard pay atention to throttle position when disengaging and reingaging the clutch, timing needs to be even more precise. I am guessing 50% throttle when its reingaging.

It is NLTS, The car will shift smother doing that. But you have to pull on that shifter fast.
You don't get that loud clunk in the back doing this.

How long have you had the car? I suspect you haven't had it for very long. My evo 9 took a few weeks to get used to avoiding 'the jerk' in 1-2. It's a matter of starting out driving slowly and smooth. Once you can get a smooth shift consistently while driving like a normal civilian, you can start driving like an *** (WOT) and still keep it smooth.

who says you cant chirp tires on awd car?!! I used to do it with my evo IX all the time, sometimes even from 2-3rd gear
Exactly, you need to wait at least a second to let the rpm drop to the right range.

Seriously? Theres no way to adjust the engagement point of the clutch on a X? Thats dumb, I slip the clutch all the time on accident cause the engagement point is so high.
