Building a bullet proof 4B11

So happy to see that you guys got underway with a nice stout 4B11 build. I came over to the EVO X world previously from a long history with Honda/Acura stuff, so I am very familiar with ERL, Benson, Golden Eagle, etc. and the sleeving process.
My main question for you so far is on your main and rod bearings... Does Mitsubishi have different sizing or "colors" like the Honda blocks do? Will you guys be going with a one size fits all ACL setup? I'd imagine that removing material with the line bore will necessitate larger bearings, unless you're looking to run a looser motor.
All in all, I am psyched to see this. My biggest qualm with the X was the AL block, but I knew a fix would come down the road sooner or later.
BTW, did you go with a larger bore with the addition of the thicker sleeves? If so, do you plan to deshroud the combustion chambers on the head? What pistons / rods do you have in mind?

I have seen a lot of issues arise with step-decking the blocks with sleeves that are proud of the blocks deck. I know that Dan Benson did a bunch of testing with different sealing techniques (o-rings, step-deck, rough vs. smooth surfaces, etc.) and concluded that the most reliable setup was a completely flat surface for the head to mate to, with the use of an OEM headgasket. Are you guys weary at all of any distortion to the head/motor with the step deck setup?

As far as the sleeves and the deck surface goes we will have to see if there is any distortion. We are assured that this is a great way to improve cylinder head sealing. There is only a difference of .003-.004 between the sleeves and the deck.
When you align hone the mains you also remove a little material from the main cap flat surfaces. This will allow you to resize the journals and keep the tolerances that you need. As far as bearings these block will be set up for standard mitsu bearings until someone comes along and makes aftermarket bearings.

It really comes down to the heads flow efficiency, etc... combined with the ability to rev high to take advantage of larger turbos like a 40R and bigger. As you make more and more power on a stock motor, the tuners abilities become more and more critical... meaning, the true "horsepower limit" of any stock motor depends largely on the tune and supporting parts such as fuel pump, injector duty, timing, etc.
I don't see why you care... the 4b11 in stock form can handle well above what you're currently making on your 9, and once sleeved, will probably as much as any 4g63 can, so I don't see the problem. In any case, great job AMS! Will you guys be making this an available upgrade for customers to purchase any time soon? I would imagine that we could just buy one fully sleeved and machined from you guys and then send in our block for a core refund?
