Distance to Empty

Wow, when i got my car I stumbled upon a review that said that the computer in the gauge cluster was useless especially when referring to the distance to empty display. They said it is not accurate and is worse than bicycle computer. Not to mention please dont watch your tires slip while your car is careening across the wet pavement.

The mileage is never right on that gizmo and God forbid you actually trust it. I've started to figure out that when you are driving it takes a linear average every 30 seconds on the dot and computes your miles per gallon then takes this and starts to try to think how far your range is. This is way off. I drove around town and got 180 miles to a full tank and the distance to empty read 0 and it said to refuel. I filled up to test it and I had 2.5 gallons left. Thats at least 35 miles which is 1/7 of our tank! My beef is that with a gas tank the size of a canteen, you would expect a little accuracy here. Has anyone heard of a software fix to this amatuer device. My Acura's distance to empty could be trusted and better yet useful. Lastly, if someone replies its just a FYI type of device, please dont. Because this no nonsense car doesnt need worthless gimmicks. If that were the case the car should say "the mileage indicated is a wild *** guess and is for amusement purposes only. Anyone else bothered by this?

Just base it off of how many miles you've driven and how much gas you usually need at that point. Why do you need a computer to do what your brain and simple math can do?

that is my point. if you are going to make an instrument, make it accurate or use pencils and paper
