Is this going to damage my MR trans?

Sometimes when i shift manually i ghost shift, (pretend there is a clutch pedal, by letting of the gas when i shift) the car sounds like it clunks and then engages the gear, i am guessing this cant be heathly? Any tips or ideas on this?

could be the first time for you...seems as how you lurk every post on here. But i'm sure the O.P. is greatful for your input.

OP : Shouldn't cause any problems during normal driving, but I have noticed that it hangs onto the lower gear a little longer than flat footing it. Don't think this would cause any damage to the SST mechanically, but who knows. Logically you would think it would lengthen the life of the clutches with less stress during shifts. But logically 2.0L aren't supposed to be fast either.

doubt it will cause any problems, bmw suggest that you do that when shifting the smg m3, but i just lay on the gas and shift, i love how hard the car shifts.

letting go of the gas gives the trans the feeling of the car being a true manual lol... I just worry about the clunking noise when it shifts and the small break. I have read articles that this is the way to drive an auto car like ours. I like the way it feels when i do that, but am worried....

Why ghost shift, isn't that defeating the purpose of the lighting fast shifts??? If you want to shift gears you should have purchased the GSR, if I had the MR I would drive it like an Automatic, I had paddle shifters in my GTS and wasn't to found of the reaction time and floppy feeling! I must admit though, I still think the MR is sweet if driven like an MR and not a GSR!

I usually don't take my foot completely off, but sometimes I try to raise my foot ever so slightly when shifting to try to ease it into gear. I don't like have the gas applied already when if goes into the next gear.

Shifting this way is smooth (sometimes) and shifting without lifting is smooth (sometimes), so I honestly have no idea.
