Well this thread is primarily about FMIC weight. Right now it looks like ARC is in a close lead with the stock. If we could get a list of ALL aftermarket FMIC weights-that would be nice. Now the other info about the performance aspect of other FMICs and whether they are a direct fit is important also. The more info for people to digest the better. Keep it coming.

Cast end tanks with smooth transitions will always outflow a sheet metal end tank of the same layout that has squared off corners and transitions.

My 3" ETS is definitely quite a bit heavier, but was worth at least 25whp. So its a trade off.

When you say the same layout do you mean same internal diameter inlet and outlet? Most cast end tanks have a way smaller internal diameter due to the casting.

So if the average Aftermarket FMIC is ~25 lbs and the Stock Intercooler checks in at 12 lbs. If horsepower to weight is your main concern (versus braking and handling from the extra weight) then you could rough guess that 100 Lbs requires around 10 HP to overcome.

I would say as long as the heavier aftermarket FMIC's deliver 1-2 HP more than the light weight ARC intercoolers, you would easily account for the 10-20 lbs weight difference. I know for a roadcourse car you want lightest weight possible but not everyone is going to spend the cash for an ARC on their street car when overall it would likely be a lower power to weight ratio combination.

Wow 9.6lbs for the ARC! Now I know it's spendy, but that FMIC may be lighter than stock (I have read 12lbs for stock, but not sure if that is the exact weight). Anyone have the stock FMIC weight?
Next ? is, how much more hp is the ARC producing over stock. So far other aftermarket FMIC are doing between 10 and 25whp according to some posts.
So now were gettn down to the nitty gritty. If we factor in price, ARC is near Pluto. But if we say only look at weight vs hp gain ARC may be closer to planet earth.

Efficiency and lightweight all in one package, and it even reduce water temperature. You GET what you pay for.

I should ellaborate abit more. Those with fitment problem are usually 4 inch or thicker. Search thoroughly and you would find the answers.

Overprice or not is personal preference, buy whatever makes you happy.

My 3.5 AGP fits perfect in between the crash beam w/ no modification whatsoever. Personally, the tiny intercooler that ARC makes is overpriced for what you get. It's not that much better than comparable fmic made here in the states. If paying 3 times more for an intercooler is your cup of tea, more power to ya.
