Uh, that's an intake manifold and plenum, not a surge tank. A (fuel) surge tank can be in-tank or out, and is simply a separate canister that is basically a mini gas tank with an auxillary fuel pump that supplies fuel to the engine in the event that the primary pump is starved when the fuel sloshes in the tank during hard cornering. It has nothing to do with the intake manifold or any part of the intake system. This is typical of JDM companies that don't know how to properly translate into english what said part actually is. This is what a surge tank is: http://www.flatironstuning.com/shop/...urge-tank.aspx. Hope this helps...

Yes it's an intake manifold, a surge tank is the common name for a fuel surge tank, but the term surge tank could also be used for an intake system integrating a surge tank too.

In Japan most manufacturers call them surge tanks.

"A surge tank structure in an intake manifold has a serge tank to which a plurality of branch tubes are joined at one end. The branch tubes are joined at the other end to a cylinder head mounting flange, and one end of each branch tube in the surge tank is enlarged to have a horn-like shape. The serge tank comprises a main body and a top plate. The main body has through holes provided therein for accepting the branch tubes and has its top side opened. The top plate is joined in a plane to the top of the main body. The main body has a bottom which has engagement recesses formed by raised portions, so that each engagement recess has a horn-like surface that conforms to the horn-like shape of one end of each branch tube."
