ACT Street Disk W/ HD PP Or Exedy Twin

Hey all, my goal for my Evo X is around 450whp, maybe 500whp. But with my mods I'll be doing in like 3 weeks, I'll be at around 400WHP. Anyways, I know I'm gonna need a new clutch, but here's my problem. My Evo is my DD, and I wanna keep it that way. I want a clutch that isn't super hard to press in, and a clutch that isn't loud. I've read that twin's chatter, but I've never heard it before so if anyone has a video of a twin "chattering" that'd be great. If it's not too noticeable then it's not that big of a deal. I also need something that is not a huge pain to drive in traffic with, because I do it sometimes, so that means no pucked clutches. I will be mostly daily driving or "road racing", but I will occasionaly head out to the drag strip, but not that often. Right now I'm leaning towards an ACT street disk with the HD pressure plate which has a torque capacity of 513 ft/lbs I believe. This seems like the better option for me because it's a big improvement over stock, it can slip from a stop in 1st gear, and there's no chatter.

Anyways, what do you guys think? What would you do if you were me?

I think the ACT is your best bet at this point as it will achieve all your objectives.

Listening...

I'm in the same boat as you. I'd like something that's easy to drive in traffic, but can take a decent amount of power with an occasional drag launch here and there.

I used to own a STI with a Tilton twin and it sucked in traffic... though I have heard the excedy is easier to use. I actually converted my STI to an ACT so I could feel like I was daily driving something normal.

Use they act street disc and HH pp its the best for a DD and holds power, I used one for a few thousand miles and it holds my 452awhp. I have since went to a puck because im going to more power and its not my DD. I still have it, its still brand new looking if u are interested in it I could send you pics. You would just need to buy a pressure plate.

Thanks for the input fellas. I'm leaning towards the ACT now but I've asked this question on another evo forum and a couple people with the exedy twin said that you can't really notice the chatter after the initial break-in and it's not loud at all, only noticeable when the windows are down. Shouldn't even be that audible over my intake whoosh, blow-off valve, exhaust, engine noise and tire noise.

Went with 6 puck disc and HD Pressure Plate, overall I learned to drive with it chattering initially, now it's engaging somewhat higher and is well broken in. I think the daily driving wears this setup out too quickly. Likely I'll try the street disc next time and see how it holds as it will likely yield more miles on the street while still allowing a fair amount of power. I've got almost 400 to the crank now and the clutch seems overkill, but at 450-500 range with a larger turbo it might put the regular street disc out of it's sweet spot.

^^ Yea same thing with me, I own a ACT 6 puck but I mostly do daily driving, rarely take it to the track, and it seems as if it wears out quickly. I've had it installed for about 4 months now, but when I got it it was really stiff and it still is, and it does engage higher which I like. It's been kind of slipping now, and engagement has gone down a bit. I'm thinking about switching to a street disc, but IDK when. And, also, my car is stock.

ACT is fine if you are just using it for daily driving.

If you want to do drag racing and launches, a twin is the way to go.

I had an ACT in my VIII and will not buy another. It will be a twin for me this time. Once it got a little wear I had lockout issues in 4th even after adjusting the clutch pedal. I don't want to deal with lockout issues again. It was a common problem, as I wasn't the only one...

Any idea if the Exedy Twin ok for DD? I know some people think it might wear out too fast but does anyone have experience with this?

Exedy twin is excellent for daily driving, not heavy, and quiet for a twin plate
