Taking a chance with a new shop/clutch :-/

Well, my clutch has finally decided to bite the dust. I have a new one coming in tuesday but there isn't a shop anywhere close that has changed a clutch on an evo x. It's slipping bad enough to where i dont feel comfortable driving a few hundred miles to get it changed. Should i be ok with getting a local shop with a good rep to do the work even though i'll be the evo x guinea pig? Is the evo that much different from other cars? What extra should i make sure they do?

Has this shop worked on an evo before, period. I wouldn't risk it.

I dont think the nearest dealer has anyone qualified to do the work. I already talked to them and the guy has never done an evo. I went ahead and asked for an estimate and they said anywhere from $700 to $1000. So i asked if $1000 would be the highest possible and was told it might even be higher if they run into trouble lol. The next closest dealership is a little more than an hour away and im not even sure if they've done a clutch swap.

its a clutch, there isn't THAT much difference in changing a clutch on an evo than a honda civic lol.... you'll be fine with where ever you go as long as they have a good rep. If they are seriously having trouble they will download the shop manual...

Ah, I would be carefull who you select. The service manual has specific instructions unique to the X. You also need to use the correct gasket RTV (Three Bond or Mitsubishi RTV is acceptable). Expect to pay around $750 labor at a reputable shop.
