AEM intake gain from 16 to 30whp gain?

I was planning to purchase the Aem intake for the X, but I was told by a tune shop that they have a hard time tuning the car with the AEM intake, and recommended me to get another intake. To be fair I don't want to mention the shops name I just want to know if this is the case, seeking the truth. Thanks!

uh...i think that's a load of bull. tuners are supposed to make any car in any form work optimally. if they can't do that, they're not tuners.

Well, COBB has a specific tune for the AEM intake.

I am a little confused by your post. Are you asking whether or not an intake will net you 16-30whp, or if an AEM intake in tunable?
To answer both:
The AEM intake is fine. Not sure why their tuner is having trouble.
16-30whp? Yes and no, depending on what dyno you use and who tunes it. Generally people see a whole AFR leaner which is where people are making the most gain from these intakes on X's.

Honestly I dont know much about this intake however is this "tuner" is unable to successfully tune with that intake then I personally would questions his tuning ability in the first place. Just my .02

with a tune the amount of hp you get out of an intake decreases substantially. The stock evo runs very rich and new intakes help to lean out the a/f producing great gains. The tuner will be adjusting a/f to be safe & optimal so the gains are some what negated. I would recommend replacing the stock filter witha drop in or an intake though do the the restrictive nature of the stock filter.

He can't be bad, at least he alerted his customer that he was not safe tuning his car with that Intake instead of a possible error occurring.

I'd find another tuner if I were you.

What a bunch of crap...can tune for an AEM intake.

On this subject, has anyone done a before and after dyno with boost logs? From what I have read so far is that some of the gains on the AEM intake are from the boost getting raised a little bit due to the AEM having one line to each wg solonoid compared to a stock intake having one line in a T configuration.

This is something we have been telling people for months.

It will throw off the duty cycles of the boost control solenoids also.

That is where I got the information from but I have yet to see a before/after log or dyno. Maybe I should search harder but I have yet to find proof.
