Nope, haven't pulled tranny/clutch yet. Having to wait for my beater to come back to me....had to loan it out to a family member.

I plan on pulling tranny/clutch ~7/24/09 - I will update then.

As promised clutch and tranny are down. Holy $hit that was WAY harder than DSM's. This is my first clutch tranny job on an Evo, and it took a LONG time.

I did generate a little damage during removal..One of the tranny studs for the driver side mount got buggered up when it binded..Hopefully Shep can replace it.

Also I couldn't get the transfer case more than about 1-2" away from the tranny and it was a constant struggle keeping the block/tranny from pinching the xfer case. I'm sure it didn't help that I did it myself on the floor

I find the wear pattern on the clutch disc intresting to me. If you look closely in the pics, you can see how the outer 1/4 of the disc is worn differently, almost a polished look. I wonder if the disk/PP is warped hence the notchiness. Seemed to have some life left though, even after 26k miles

Below are some initial pics..I will post more soon

The below are my opinions and may not be fact...pics below as well.

OEM clutch on left, Southbend stage 3 full face feramic on right.

Appears to be uneven wear on outter edges of stock disk.

This is not dust..this seems to be organic material peeling off and getting caught in the pressure plate...another indication that clutch drag cold be the culpret.

Stock flywheel looks chromoly...but I'm am not an expert..

Notice the excessive marcel on the stock disk..more on that later..

Southbend custom fabricated with minimal marcel..

Stock clutch disk weighs 4.4 lbs... almost 1/2 lbs more than southbend clutch.

Stock flywheel weighs 13.4lbs

Back to that marcel on the stock disk.. I believe this may play a LARGE part in what I believe to be the biggest root cause of notchy shifting...clutch drag.

I forgot how to read a micrometer, but look at the pics..notice how much expansion/compression travel is present in the marcel, I believe this prevents clutch from completely disengaging...

Notice the southbend clutch has no compression/expansion

More later.....

Like the OP said, the clutch cannot be adjusted. However, removing the restrictor will put the engagement closer to the floor. I pulled out my restrictor recently and it dropped the engagement down about what seems like ~2cm.

So do know exactly what they're going to do?

And I thought I heard of Mitsu releasing revised shifter cables, do you know anything about that?

subscribed to an awesome thread. Great work on documenting this tsitalon.

I'm starting to think of replacing my clutch and I'm looking forward to see what you learn.

Flywheel has been resurfaced and is on it's way back to me now.

Still haven't heard from Shep if they recieved my tranny...I will call them tommorrow and check.

AMS ring, clutch line and all shift bushings (inside and out) on the way as well!

Any reason you are keeping the stock flywheel?

Three reasons:

1. Stock flywheel is fairly light...only 13.4lbs

2. Evo X is heavy and needs all the flywheel inertia it can get..in my opinion (I'm sure others would disagree though)

3. Feramic material on southbend clutch has been known to eat aftermarket flywheels

Have you tried lifting the car off all four and checking for wheel movement with the clutch disengaged? That's the TRE for sure way to see if the clutch is disengaging properly.

One thing about that though, did you have issues with all gears or just 2nd and 3rd? If it was dragging, it would be all gears.
