Cosworth fortified Evo X MR built and tuned by Dyno Flash

We had a customer with a really nice Evo X MR hit a deer on his way home from dyno tuning leading to severe front end damage and the eventual loss of engine oil and destruction of his engine

The customer wanted to "build it right" so we put together a really nice build with all Cosworth internals which were blueprinted and balanced to as close as they could be reasonably made

Parts

Cosworth Pistons
Cosworth Rods
Cosworth Bearings
Cosworth H11 head studs
Cosworth head gaskets
Cosworth valve springs and retainers

Buschur fmic and upper and lower fmic pipes
Buschur intake
Buschur car back exhuast
Forge UNOS MBC

Gauge package

Ecutek Dyno Flash tune

On of the huge advantages of working through Ecutek is the access to all the transmission shift improving engine ecu parameters which make the car a lot more enjoyable to drive.

On this car I have not yet employed WOT in 1st gear as I am unsure if the trans can take all 345 TQ.

The car retained the stock car for now due to the customer wanting to pass emissions

Power was 345 TQ and 335 whp and that was the most TQ we could squeeze before the clutch would slip slightly on the dyno

I feel the car could hol more power on the top end as I tuned another MR at AWD in FL which made 350 on their dyno before slipping. Thus I have recomended a high flow cat to the customer.

The end result was the smoothest Mistu motor I have ever driven, the combination of the well balanced engine and X body makes for a very smooth and refined feel.

Here are some pictures

Kudos BTW to our master Ferrari tech who was able to put the X engine back together so cleanly that you simply can not tell that the car was ever taken apart - it still has the oem look

Video of the delivery of the car

While this was not the most powerful or the fastest car I have ever built, it will certainly always stand out in my mind as perhaps one of the most unusual builds I have ever done. The combination of the SST trans and the broad power band really make it a very pleasant car to drive on the road.

Hopefully after some more break in miles and getting used to the new set up the customer will return for the test pipe and perhaps a clutch upgrade when we feel those have reached a good stage of development.

Al

What gauge pods were used on this car?

Also how easy is it to glance at the gauges when driving the car?

Thanks.

Why did the customer go with an MBC?

Thanks.
The idea of the gauge location was to keep them somewhat stealth and its a nice spot to put the gauges. No doubt they are not in eye field of vision but they are out of the way and it keeps a good dash board look. The gauge pods are auto meter.

Just FYI, EcuFlash has this as well, just not released to general public yet.

The stock ecu actually is what has all the parameters. Back in the day I would work with raw hex files and find my own maps.

Ecutek is simply a tool which professional tuners like myself use to work on customer's vehicles. In the case of the Evo X Ecutek was out nearly a full year before the free options and they continue to have much better functionality, both in terms of tuneable parameters and also in terms of map tracing, data logging, etc. etc.

Smile This Is MY EVO X MR & It's Awesome!

Big Al from Dynoflash and ICS performance have done an incredible job with this Evo.
First of all, Al spends time tuning the way an artist paints a masterpiece. The car is running nearly an extra 100 whp & tq, and the difference is amazing. I'm keeping the MBC at 25psi max and so far the car has been perfect.

Al is right that we need to get rid of the cat and we will do that soon. Right now, I'm testing out the SST tranny to see how it handles the new power. So far it actually performs better and I see no tranny problems at all. Shifts are faster and smoother in all modes. I've only put 400 miles on it so far, but once I have a couple thousand on it, I'm probably going to ask Al to delete the first gear torque limiter when we delete the cat. I know a test pipe would be best, but I don't want emissions problems in NYS, so I will probably go with a Hi-flow cat instead.

Even if we have to tune it down a little, my next step will be to delete the first gear limiter like in the new FQ 330 SST. I also plan on upgrading the SST with a new cooler and clutch packs once these new products have proved to be good. Like Al says, "Let the other guys test the new tranny parts first".

If you're looking to upgrade your performance in just about anything, you should definitely contact Dynoflash. Al treats your car like it's his own racing machine, and I doubt there's a better tuner in the USA. The same goes for ICS Performance. These guys can do anything and my project was a big one, but they really created a masterpiece of engineering. Dynoflash & ICS turned my nightmare into sweet dreams.

Thanks for the kind praise. Its truely an honor to have worked on such a amazing project.

The guys at Ecutek have released to us all the ecu parameters which effect the operation of the transmission wuch as the 1st gear TQ limiter which is effectively a throttle blade limiter. I am confident that we can safely increase the throttle angle safely and make the car leave the line harder. However, as I have suggested, with the MR trans, all such modifications are done at the end user's liability. Hopefully, in time guys like Shep trans and others will be able to rebuild, upgrade and service the MR trans but in the meantime it is a very expensive unit.

Thanks again

Al

Thumbs up

Pepperman911! You need to stop by the dealership! I need to see your Evo X perform first hand. Please! Car looks beautiful. Sorry to hear about the deer/oil issues. I'm very interested in the new engine build!! Please stop by Mangino's when ever you get a chance.

So a Deer got you a Cosworth engine, put together by a meticulous Ferrari guy. SWEET!! So thats how you get that past the budget department. WTB deer.

It is encouraging to see that there are shops out there that spend the amount of time on quality and attention to detail that was given to this car.

I saw the video in my dnoflash subscription updates; looks like it moves out pretty well. 350whp is plenty and that guy seemed pleased; all you have to do is flip it in "d" and cruise.

This car is a dream. It's a second faster in every test according to my Gtech performance meter and I can feel it in the seat of my pants. The sst performs flawlessly. I'm not sure what changes Dynoflash Al made to 2nd thru 6th gears, but it's very noticeable. On thursday, I am returning to Dynoflash to have the first gear power limiter deleted. I'll keep you posted. Considering this car is running low 12s roght now, when we remove the power limiter - she should be running mid to high 11s.

So far (after very hard driving in very hot temps), I have not had a single issue with the SST tranny. Above 20 mph, this car is almost too fast for the road. Once we delete the first gear power limiter, this EVO will be a light to light beast. According to my Gtech power meter, she's presently doing (0-60) in 4.5 seconds consistently with a 1/4 mile of 12.5 at 110 mph in sport mode. I don't use super sport because it seems to hard on the car. Not bad.....

This Awesome One Of A Kind Cosworth Evo Is For Sale

I know we just got done building this dream car and it's totally awesome. The cosworth build has made this a bullet proof one of a kind EVO X MR. Unfortunately I now have to sell it. The insurance would not cover me on the rebuild and I spent my nest egg on it. Now we are having a baby and I have to sell it. My loss is your gain. I have $58K invested in this beast and I am selling it for $30K. There is 7,500 miles on the body and less than 2K on the motor. Shipping is up to you. I am in Albany, NY. This car runs like a champ.
