Clutch slippage at around 12k miles - Replacement clutch options
So it's been about a year, a little more and i just noticed my damn clutch seems to be slipping. If I step on the gas my revs go up a good 1k before the tranny catches and starts to accelerate.
Is the stock clutch weak as **** or what and if so what is the best option for a stronger clutch to replace with since I will have to buy one anyway?

To make this thread more useful please offer up the following info so that other's can understand why your clutch may have failed.
How many times have you launched the car?
How many times have you tracked/raced the car?
What mods do you have?
At what mileage did you install the mods?
What hp/tq levels (if available)?
Else just read about other's problems with the stock clutch as suggested above.

Here's a quick cliffs notes of what you will find.
Most people prefer exedy twin. It's 1800
Many people say their ACT clutches lock up at high rpm. Others have no issues.
Not many reviews on single disk exedy, spec, clutch masters, fidanza, competition, or carbonetics.
Do not buy a carbon clutch.
Single disk clutches probably need the AMS reinforcement ring.
might as well upgrade the flywheel while your at it.
I bought the exedy stage 2 single disk. Going to install this weekend (if it comes in time).
A very good place to look is the different manufacturers white papers on their own products.

Thought I had read somewhere on here about lightweight flywheels with some issues. Might want to research that beforehand.
Exedy Twin, not everyone needs it, and yes it's a kick A$$ clutch, but I think it's like the I-Phone of clutches, most everyone hopping on the bandwagon. Theres just some sort of auro, pride for some just to be able to say :yeah, it's got an EXEDY TWIN......
But then again, this is coming from someone who had 70k+ miles on the EVO IX (stock clutch) and 17k+ now on the EVO X with stock clutch. I will go for a different clutch soon, not for faulty or weak stock clutch, just for something that has more bite.

how the heck are people burning out the clutchs on these car at 10k miles. I mean i understand if its because u track the car all the time, but as a daily driver for me I would hope the clutch lasts 40k miles plus
I did a quick search on here but I think I might have screwed it up and not gotten all posts in this sub forum. My car is stock except for an air filter. I have never tracked it and launched maybe between 5-10 times.
Launching like some have said, but also from power mods, mostly from what I would think is driving style/launching.
People that go with substantial power mods usually tend to have a clutch lined up for install at the same time.
On my EVO IX, besides the high miles, car was driven hard at the road course several times. Couple sets of brake pads, and many sets of tires but stock clutch still felt like new when I traded the car in.

I was like WTF!
But 4WD + 2.0L Turbocharged + 3000pounds plus your weight= stock clutch goes bye bye... some can pull maybe 20k or 30 buti don't know how they did it!
Do you like the IX's clutch or the X's better?

Honestly to me, they feel the same. Without being "semi" aggressive at red lights turning green, the first car next to you pulls away until a couple thousand rpms into it. This happened to me in both the IX and X.
I haven't taken the X to the road course yet, but I don't suspect the clutch will be any different. I do match revs downshifting more often than not as well....
Also remember, all it takes is one bad launch, and your clutch "could" be well on it's way to start slipping.....
