Everyone keeps on talking about getting the car tuned right away. Why is that? What exactly needs to be tuned?

stock tune is very rich, idle is rough, and boost will taper near the top. A tune will solve these problems as well as give you a few more mpgs.

HKS drop in air filter and a road tune. Should cost you about 300 total

Unless you just want to buy a mail-in tune, I wouldn't get a tune right away. Get it after you do a few mods, so that the tune fits the car. If you get it tuned, then change a bunch of stuff, then the tune doesn't match any more.

This is how I have gone...
1. Greddy SE exhaust
2. Injen Intake
3. Cobb AP

You could just go with the AP and gains are very good for the buck

Cat-back. Decent gains and the car is way too quiet stock.

It would be nice to get everything you want at once, because once you upgrade this and that, that means more tune over and over again.

Hi, i am new to AWD and turbo, i had a 2004 S2000 before getting an Evolution X, what should be the first worthwhile modification?

i know for the s2000, if i had to choose again, it would be a shorter final drive as the best first modification for the s2000.

So what do you veterans recommend? what should i stay away from?
cold air intake or short ram?
exhaust?down pipe?

any suggestion is appreciated.
First off, terry4523, welcome to the forum. I also went from a S2000 to the X and im verry happy with the choise. Love the extra torque and turbo. The first mod i did was a K&N panel/cone filter and now i can hear the turbo spool and the BOV. This doesnt yeild much hp gains but it makes driving the X A LOT more fun since the X is quiet *** hell stock. Next mod will be the UICP from speedcircuit. Good luck with you modding and have fun with the X!!
