Question Car not hitting target boost

put in my atp Dp set up with external WG yesterday with my FP red, mx1 cam, 3-port boost controller and meth set up (full supporting mods) but the car is not hitting target boost and it just stays at 15 psi. (WG pressure)

now the car is tuned for 15 psi until the shop figure out what happen.

the tuner said it might be :

1/ bad high flow cat (melted internal and restricted high end flow) (anyone has this happened to them? i have UR metal HFC)

2/ bad turbo (is FP red known for having a defective turbo)

or something else.

anyone has experience on cars not hitting high/target boost?

what is the usual cause of the problem?

would boost leak cause the boost to drop that low?

thanks guys

i have heavy black smoke and carbon build up on my exhaust. so i suspect that the cat could be clogged and hurting performance. any ideas of why this is happening?

thanks

I am too tired to link my thread, but i also suffer from this except my car is relatively stock. I would put it all back to stock and take it to the stealership, but i need a stock bov hose. I have heard of others having solenoid issues where the ecu is shutting the boost solenoids off and not throwing a code... that is what is happening with mine. car sits overnight and then i drive it, everything is fine. after any full throttle the solenoids shut off and there is no codes in the ecu.

I would suspect faulty solenoids since it is happening more and more, but i have no proof to back up my claims. I am very interested in what you or anyone with this problem finds out. If i get ahold of a stock turbo BOV hose cheap soon i will post what i fond out myself.

The ECU could be pulling the boost. Buy Evoscan and a cable and log your car. Will be easy to see if the ecu is pulling it back then and you can use it to fine tune.

i tried pulling all the hose off the external WG and it should be running "unlimited" psi. but the max my car can run is 15 psi. this proved that it is not the solenoids or electrical but something mechanical.

do you guys know what is it?

Ditch the ecu boost control for a manual boost controller asap.

have you tried a boost leak test? If not, IMO, i think you have a boost leak...

Ensure that you have the 3-port routed properly:

Ive been thinking about getting a 3port. And since Perrin has an 18% off sale, now would be the best time to buy.

Same thing with 3port / MBC / no lines

GST obviously tuned the car.
- If you assume that it's the cat, why not replace it with a test pipe? At least to rule that out.
- Check all your plumbing from the turbo to the throttle body. Do a boost leak test. Then rule out a boost leak.
- The FP Red comes internally gated. If you are running an external wastegate, then you must have done away with the internal gate? How did you go about doing this?
- You could have a bad 3-port.
- Also check the external wastegate. Take it apart and make sure everything is working properly. Are you using a V44 or MVS 38?

It's not the solenoid as the car was tested with another known working solenoid and then with a MBC and also hoses disconnected fully from the EWG.

External gate is off the downpipe coming from the turbo WG side. I believe it's a ATP EWG downpipe.

The car will hit 21-22psi but it takes till 6500-7000 rpm to get there. I'm leaning towards bad turbo, cat or some other restriction.

Car is not tuned for anything really since it's obviously not performing correctly.

same problem here. bad cat. I took out the clogged up one and welded a test pipe. Mine was only holding 13 psi. What you can do is take out the exhaust from the 02 dump back, go for a ride and check your boost, without the downpipe hooked in.
