sorry to resurrect an old thread just need some help here. could it be a clutch issue?
hi, i never got chance to rectify the prob. i took the car to the dealer and the answer was that since the car is new in the market, gear box parts won't be available from the factory for at least 1 year and i lost warranty cause i have HKS clutch. so i had to buy a new gearbox. i sold the original gearbox to a garage. but guess what? i found out that the gearbox is exactly like the previous generation EVOs but with different ratio. so i recommend you to open the gearbox & see the damaged part & try to buy from EVO 7,8 or 9 catalog. but still i'd like to know what caused that, dirty oil maybe? can't think of anything else.

Mmmm, I'm not so sure about that. There was much talk when they came out about the clever way in which they were able to make the gears in the X's 5spd bigger... they did away with the worm gear for reverse, and instead combine 1 and 3 together. That allowed them to make the rest of the gears physically larger.

To me, that makes it sound like pretty much nothing internal would be reusable from the previous generation (wider gears, different configuration, etc.). I've never had the gearbox apart, so I'm by no means an expert in this area, but anyone looking into doing this should do more research before buying parts.
