Assistance removing transmission...

I'm in the middle of taking my transmission out to replace my clutch, but I'm stuck. The axles and first portion of the driveshaft are removed. Everything on the transmission is removed: starter, shifter cables, etc. The rear mount and side mount are removed. The transfercase is off and leaning between the subframe and the engine block.

Here is the problem. I'm trying very hard not to remove the subframe because i'd rather not deal with the steering rack. My TOB is stuck on pretty damn good. I've used screw drivers and prybars and the ****er still won't release. As for the actual transmission, can I lean it forward and then down to get it out of the engine bay again, without removing the subframe? Any help is appreciated.

The bolts on subframe are long so you can actually drop it down a good inch and a half or more and hang it on the end of the bolts to give yourself room without removing it.

I think his problem is that the TOB is still attached and he can't remove it.

You want my advice? Save your money and have a shop do it. lol I'm giving the TOB one more shot to get out and if it doesn't budge, she's going back together and straight to a shop.

I've used screwdrivers, crowbars, a big *** snap-on bar with flat tip, and files with vice grips and it still won't budge. Its a real pain.

I've done this job twice now

I initially had this same problem...I had a helper continually rotate the crank with a 22mm wrench while I tried to release it...it worked...try it

try turning the flywheel (with the crank bolt and trying to pop it off bit by bit from different directions.

The TOB got so mangled up while we tried to get it out so I ended up unbolting the pressure plate through the pivot fork hole. Did some dancing with the tranny and it wouldn't come out. Took the side stud for the mount off the top of the tranny, which we forgot to do, and she practically fell out. Flywheel is going to the machine shop in the morning and we're going to try and have it back together by Sunday night. And, we did not move the subframe one bit. We're going to try and get the tranny back in without removing it either.

This is by far a tough job, but i've never done an Evo clutch job before. I'm sure the 2nd time around, it will be much easier.
