I was thinking about this the other day too.

But I was thinking more about the way these are driven when they are cold or first started. Were these cars sometimes driven hard immediately after startup? My dealership said they have seen problems when people drive them hard before letting them warm up. Maybe something to think of because not everyone's pistons are falling apart..

The ECU doesn't really allow the car to build boost when its cold.

I broke mine in pretty moderately, I tried to hit all ranges of te RPM range while driving (but not pushing tons of boost higher up). It wasn't until 1000 miles that I puushed it till redline.

I had this type of piston failure, after breaking in my car the "gentle" way. Not sure if one has to do with the other at all, I'm sure it could happen to anyone. But I thought they fixed the pistons for the 2010's? Mine was an 08 for reference.
