Oil report done - elevated Iron ?

Hi Guys,

I got blackstone to do a oil report on my 20k km oil change.

Everything was pretty good, but iron was about double the average...?

I thought the block was aluminium? or does it have steel sleeves?

Anything else steel in there?

Cheers
D.

this is intersting tephra, time for some homework to find components that have iron in this block, did you try blackstone to see if they had data on what the 4B11 is designed of, back in the day they usto be able to give you a list of components that posibly were damaged.

There's LOTS of iron in the engine: The bores are iron, the cams and tappets/shims/followers are iron, the valves are iron, and the base material of the rings are iron, oil pump, oil and cam chain, chain gears, crankshaft, rods, all of the bolts, ...

Is this your first test? How long was the oil in the engine? What kind of oil? regular change intervals?

My X showed the following Iron values from new:

Total Miles (Miles on Oil) - Iron ppm
2440 (2440) - 42
4785 (2345) - 22
8142 (3357) - 20
10733 (2591) - 18

I've posted up the report in post #1

First oil test

5k km's intervals
20k km on the engine as of this change

I believe the oil is Shell Helix 0-40w

Are they comparing it to high performance turbo charged 2.0L engines or N/A grocery getter type 2.0L?

So, beings that you are at the ~12,000 mile range, it looks like you are on par with Q15h's tests.

yeah maybe a tad higher in the iron...

but I drive pretty hard, no track/circuit/drag thou...

I am assuming they compared it to 4B11T - since they know its an Evo

Be interested to see how the next 5k oil change goes...

tephra, yours is not the first 4B11T to show elevated FE in that mileage...

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...p-5w-30-a.html

I'm getting ready to do another sample on mine- AL and FE have been increasing in my analysis, and it's starting to look as if I have coolant getting into the oil. Your potassium is looking a little elevated, too. Might be something to keep an eye on.

wouldn't antifreeze be non-zero if it was coolant?

we should start a new thread PURELY for keeping track of oil reports

They're not comparing it to anything. Just using selected/specified "norms" and rating it to that.

Like silicon and fuel in the oil - doesn't matter what kind of engine it is. If the values are high for silicon, there is lots of dirt entering the intake and if the fuel (petrol) in the oil is high, the system is too rich or has a leaking fuel injector(s) (and a poor crankcase ventilation system).
