Yes you will need a tune.

It should be safe enough to drive to your tuner as long as you drive like a little old lady and stay out of boost. I just had a set of Cosworth cams installed in my Ralliart, and it ran like they were installed backward, upside down, and off three teeth on the stock tune! I have tweaked the MIVEC maps extensively myself and it is now road worthy for a long trip to reach Buschur Racing for a professional tune. Even without my tweaks to the MIVEC map it would have been "safe" to drive... just really unpleasant.

Good luck,

Keith

Its safe to drive, if you're going to stay out of boost for a short period of time. A tune is DEF. needed though.

Please post results when you have tested these. I am debating cams and these look to be promising.

I'm thinking about Tomei cam typy R vs. HKS V Cam..... cuz both didn't required stiffer spring. but that HKS V cam is wayyy too expensive for me. so I might go with Tomei poncam.

You get more torque than HP out of the stock turbo just due to not being able to flow very well at high RPM. It's just so maxed out. You see some fantastic gains with upgraded turbos. I wouldn't be surprised to see 8-10% increase or about 40 WHP+ if they are aggressive enough.

The only mods I had on my IX was a full exhaust and it registered 284whp. Upon installing Tomei 264 Cams, my car's output still remained at 284whp. When I drove my car that's where I felt the changes.

My mid-range pull is now better/more torque-y. And the boost kicks in at 3000rpm instead of 3500.

But I must admit, I was a little disappointed that I had no gains on paper.
