ok i have 03 evo.the engine has quite a bit done to it. I am experiencing a loud whitle/whine it starts only when iam boosting up as i am driving .. if i rev while im in idle the boost gauge goes up.. then drops. as if the pressure is getting lost. i have a forge recirc BOV. i think thats where the leak is coming from???

it gets louder as i boost more ...changing from a small whistle to a loud steady whistle.

i am unable to find the leak. where can i take it to find the leak??

 

check the itercoller pipes and vac lines. mine was coming from the upper intercooler pipe.

 

yup , ive been all under the car. and sprayed all the intercooler pipe couplings and vacume tubes and couldnt seem to find any leek they all seem to be really secure.... .

 

Yup my friend had the same thing on wrx...the seals in his turbo were shot and made a whistling sound and got louder as time went on. Also on evos the tb makes that noise as well, so you have three things to check for:

1) Obviously check for oil under and around the turbo
2) Pressure test the whole intake tract
3) Smoke test the intake...a lot of shops don't have them so call around until you find one.

All turbos make a "whistle" noise when/as they spool up. I dont know how much experience you have with turbod cars but you didnt mention in your origina post.

 

If you can post a video to distinguish if its an abnormal sound and does the exhaust smoke alot when you start it?

before the leak it would send a small lil puff smoke (hardly noticable)...not thick at all and only when i would punch it..

It doesnt smoke when i start it. if it does its really small.

ill post a video soon but its hard to hear it because i have to be driving to hear the noise.

i just made an appointment at my mitsubishi dealer to check it out.

i really think its my BOV but i cant see anything wrong with it when i take it off.

 

I know they do , when i first had it before the leak i would hear a faint whine before the BOV swoosh when i would boost but i knew that was from the turbo...this is a whistlee and it is much louder and it is controlled by my boost. because i can drive normal without boosting past 5 psi and i wont here the whistle at all.

 

I just got my oil changed . he said i had a transmision fluid leak.(slow) because it was still full. and i noticed that my exhaust does smoke when i start and when i floor it. not an awfull amount. just a small thin light grey puff of smoke
