don't have a red yet, but i'll be running AMSoil for life... it's the only oil out there with independent studies... of course because they are on their site many people question them, but it resists heat, cold, wear etc better than anything else out there.

you and me both know why people question them.,,,, is because humans by nature questions everything,

but what people must know is that all them test must meet or exceed ASTM standards,, so its easy to just bounce AMSOIL results off ASTM standards and make your own conclussions as a consumer.

methodical,,, we appreciate your loyalty,,, you know at this point AMSOIL has grabed the horns of a very good reputation, many big hitter shops run this ASMOIL stuff, and many big horsepower cars in these very forums,,,,,

Mobil 1 5W-30 or 10W-30 would be just fine. No real reason to change oils just because you got a new turbo.

Thanks Kracka thats what I was think but the invoice from FP stated to not use mobile 1 anymore and to use that Brad Penn which I had never heard of and the weight seemed a little high.

yep read this thread its about why your oil should be choosen carefully,,,, believe me i do this day in and day out there are differences in oils in spite of what some folks tend to say,,,, https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...nal-turbo.html

Quick summary of that thread
- When choosing oils make sure you have enough zinc and phos on the oil this will help your internals and engine know as anti wear additives, a good oil will have 1100 ppm on both zinc and phos,,,, not many oils that you buy at wallmart or auto parts stores will have this anymore why because thie GREEN thing less zinc and phos less harm to the enviroment i guess.

anyways good info in that thread and some smart people talked into it.

I think Mobil is a very good oil... and you can't ALWAYS trust the "you get what you pay for" saying... but when it comes to the fluids that can make or break my car, i'll spend the extra. Basically people look for reasons why it's ok to not spend as much. It's much much easier to go into walmart and buy the 5 quart Mobil one for 22.99 or 26.99 than it is to have to have your oil either shipped... or try to find local people to deal with, where prices are basically all the same +/- a dollar... to me it's worth it... others haven't had a problem with their stuff and so see no need to change.

Let me ask those people this though... if over the long haul (assuming you are going to keep your Evo for a lonnnng time) if someone were to tell you that using the AMSoil would give your engine an extra 40k miles of life vs. what you are using... would it be worth the price?

Id prefer to run AMSOIL since I can get it easy but would I really need to run 20-50 just becasue I have changed out the turbo? I dont care about the cost I just want the car to hold up as long as possible.

Thanks for all the good info

I'm not sure about that part, I don't have have a red... if that is what they suggest... I would do what they suggest.... when it comes to a turbo, or any part that expensive, i'd do it, but i'd ask some of the FP guys... you could just call FP and ask them directly.

My tuner has me running 10w40 since he built my motor. If you really beat on your car then you might want to up the weight from 30 but 50 seems extreme for a daily driver.

I don't see a turbo on your mod list man... you have one with that 427 hp? Or just a built motor? I'm not giving you stuff about your post... I was actually just curious.

I just sent my Red in to get ported before I put it on and the invoice from FP said to run the Brad Penn 20-50 which is what threw me off cause I did a lot of searching on here and couldn't find anyone running that oil on their Reds.

I ran factory Mobil 1 Full Synthetic 10W30. I had my FP Red Fail on me. No idea what the cause was.

Had my FP Red rebuilt under warranty. Since then have switched to AMSOil 10w30. Not a single issue and my low idle oil flicker issue just magically went away once I switched.
