UICP necessary?

i currently have the following mods.

RRE tune
test pipe
cosworth panel filter

im going to get a short DP, RRE stealth sideways muffler, and AEM intake.

the guys at RRE said that an UICP won't show higher dyno #'s..however turbo response will theoretically be better.

what do you guys think?

I'd say go ahead and get the UICP, and forget about the Short DP because they're essentially worthless. If anything opt for an o2 downpipe because that's been show to be the most restrictive part of the exhaust.

Don't waste your money on a UICP, buy a 3port instead, much better investment.

Better yet get a 3port and the UICP, and don't waste your money on a short DP.

I have a green setup that I just put a UICP on and it made NO difference.

Buy the 3port and retune.

Funny thing is though, RRE does not recommend a 3-port. They said it shows no gains over stock selenoid. Unless I guess you go over 30psi.

I had mine purchased allready, so I had them tune with it, but they said it is unnessessary.

And my suggestion is buy an O2/DP, which will net you the most gains.
I have the UR piece, but AMS widemouth looks like a great piece.

I also thought UICP should net you like 5 hp, but I guess I was wrong. It should def. help with response though, since the stock pipe has a large expandable part.

Not for a Uicp......I have proof of that.

People claim the stock rubber hose expands.......yep, for the first tenth of a sec, than it's rock hard.....just try to squeeze one during a boost leak test, you'll see...UICP=waste of $

that's fine... others claim that this amount of power gain IS possible... which they supposedly have proof of as well.

I'm yet to find any conclusive proof that an aftermarket UICP does anything. Even though the stock one feels weird that it has a sock/soft feel to it, it's by no means any kind of bottleneck for the performance.

That being said it does look fugly and I was happy to get the free upgraded UICP with my Injen intake.

That's true- unless your X has gone down the modding route already, a stock X won't make much of a difference with an upgraded UICP.

UICP isnt going to give you more power, but it will improve throttle response.
no flex w/ a full hard pipe setup, stock plastic hose has too much flex which limits airflow under hard accel
