Is it safe to go 8k rpm with stock internals?

I definitely would be worried if internals are bone stock and and rev limiter is past 7,800rpm. I don't think the hole that would appear on your block will help the process of forced induction at all...

Interesting he did hold your car out to 8k, bluegsr. I dont know, in my opinion for you i wouldn't hold it out to 8k. Your really not "making" anymore power after 6800rpms your just dropping power and to me that seems pointless to hold it out at the risk of engine damage. I'd keep it to 7k.

I think it is 7600 stock. It's tempting to rev it out on an upgraded turbo because many will pull all the way to redline. There's no point on the stock turbo.

+1!

Best advice here.

Don't listen to misinfo. We have been tuning evo X since they came out and we have done so many, if there was a problem revving to 7800-7950 on stock cams/springs we would have found that long ago. I say there is no issue with this.

On the matter of upgraded cams designed for higher spring pressure I would say no, do as the cam manufacturer recommends and install the valvetrain components necessary.

STOCK REV LIMIT IS 7600.

thanks for the info Sean... I was getting a little concerned as well. I've had both Mellon and now 4ws tune me, and both set the rev limiter at 8 grand.... does that mean that I run it to 8 grand all the time? Nope, but if you run it to that, it's not going to kill the engine.

214b w/ the kelford springs, stock retainers. 8k is my rev limit, though i rarely reach it. And, in interest of saving my rods, I short shift like a **** on the track when running all out, shifting around 7200. So it costs me a few seconds a lap.... better than having an extra hole in my block and a fiance that wants to kill me for spending 10k on my engine when I told her itd only be 5 :-)

Everything in moderation. 8k rev limit doesnt mean every day you sit there bouncing off it.

For some reason, some guys just don't get this. Most guys think they can shift, but their clutches last 2-6k miles too lol.

I did 8 track days this year and revved to 8000 with almost every shift and bounced off the rev limiter all the time. I'm also running stock turbo with a safe 94 tune though.

No 400 hp here....

Its always nice to have a professional with lots of experience speak up rather then a few individuals with only experience with their own car.
