Is an AP really necessary? I thought the stock ecu was just fine with a reflash?

The COBB AP is used to flash the ECU. As long as you stay on the COBB recommended parts list and don't get creative, the off the shelf (OTS) maps, available for download from COBB, give you instant bang for the buck.

Buschur Racing Stage 1-3! https://secure.buschurracing.com/cat...cbef747b1e218d

Buschur is located in Northern Ohio so would be a close drive to Michigan!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kyJ-9-mI6iw

Stock Car makes 215whp/240tq on Buschurs Dyno
Stage 1-2 makes roughly 300whp/300tq on Buschurs Dyno

Buschurs Dyno is a low reading Mustang Dyno so it would be more like 345whp/345tq on a dynojet.

Buschur Stage 1 $1,175
*Crossflow Catback (Stock Cat Flows Really well no need to change it)
*Buschur Air Filter Kit
*Buschur ECU Tune

Buschur Stage 2 $680
* Polished UICP
* Polished LICP
* Polished Air Intake

Buschur Stage 3 $759
* Buschur Race FMIC

Roughly $2,600 for the whole Buschur Stage 1-3 Kit. This is the route I would suggest going. The crossflow exhaust is not annoying loud adds nice tone to the car but makes really good power!

ecu tune > cobb AP . < ecu tune with cobb AP. Possibly.

Just fyi, the AP will only work on one car at a time, so unless your friend doesn't have a car that it's married to, you're going to need your own.

You know, $3000 really is plenty for making a nice, well-rounded evo! Look for deals and be selective about your parts and you can make this budget work. Most of this is from my personal X (and pretty close to Kracka's too I think).

Tuning: $500
tactrix cable, microSDcard, odb2 extension cable 210
innovate LC-1 $180
pierburg 3-port BCS $100

Power: $1400
perrin turbo inlet hose $100
aFe stage2 intake $220
magnaflow catback, modded w/ 3" inlet $500
megan testpipe $120
MAP o2-elim downpipe $450

Handling: $500
Whiteline rear sway: $175
eibach springs: $200
alignment: $100

Shifting: $250
redline cocktail: $40
ams front motor mount insert $65
underhood shifter and gate bushings $75
Rear diff bushings $50
Driveshaft bushings $50

Good luck!

others might disagree but i always go
suspension first then power

so my vote is for kw v3's ~1700
robispec sway ~ 160
whiteline roll center kit ~120
do the install yourself, then get an alignment + corner balancing ~400

cosworth drop in ~45
cobb inlet ~100
cobb hard pipe kit ~550

that's roughly 3k right there

then go exhaust + hi flow cat or test pipe + fmic + tune later on

At least you got me in there once ;-). The price is way off though we're at $369.99 shipped.

OP: You've got some great suggestions here, once you decide which route you're going I would love an opportunity to earn your business.

Ugh I was way off! Well it's WORTH $600 how about that!?! LOL I just checked my notes and it was about $450 w/ ceramic coating--worth every penny to keep heat down at the back of the engine bay!

FWIW I did get almost that entire list via MAP--they have great prices and top notch customer service!

Don't waste your money on an intake at the power level you are talking about (with tune and exhaust). Then again, I would not put lowering springs on an evo so......

Best bang for the buck IMO, (upper ic pipe, turbo back exhaust, drop in filter, boost pill or 3 port, tune, then a good alignment and some good sticky tires (Z1 star specs for example).

Take the left over and go to a driving school or track day.

As expected, lots of Type A personalities with opinions. All have different ideas and each one think their idea is the best. Moral of the story? Ignore all this advice and start reading the threads and do your own analysis. You will find the answer, just take some effort.
