Injen cai
Injen cai
Hey, I'm looking into an cai for my 08 evo x gsr. I've been looking around and am kind off leaning towards the injen setup since it comes with the uicp as well. Anyone out there using this setup? Please any info would be great thanks. P.S. My computer is down and my phone won't keep the search bar open, so I can't do a search on this. Thanks
From what i understand, a cai is"overkill" for a turbocharged car, as the air going in will be heated by the turbo and cooled by the IC anyway ( essentially making the IC you "cai") as well as giving you a chance of sucking something into the intake you wouldn't want in it. I would try for a cobb, ets, ams, aem, etc "shaort ram" intake.
The Injen intake isn't really a cai. It does have a heat shei;d and that helps to prevent that a/c fan/idle problem. The Injen intake makes the butt dyno happy like any intake. It makes a bunch of fun turbo noises as well. Install is a breeze.

In general I would agree that a cold air intake setup doesn't help a turbocharged engine with a good FMIC, but if you can cool the incoming air for cheap why not do it. $500 instead of $150-$200 likely isn't considered cheap but I made my own cold air intake.
Granted the setups that place your airfilter 1 foot above the pavement are not as appropriate for areas that flood, then again why would you drive through standing water that is deeper than 1 foot anyways.

Don't get a cold air that goes into the lower part of the engine bay. A short ram will do the trick and won't be a pain in the a$$ to change the filter.
I went with AMS because the black wrinkle coat looks awsome and matches the other black components under the hood. It's a bit more expensive but you get what you pay for.

The injen is more like $420 if you do your shopping. I suppose there are better UICP's out there, but for the average joe it's a good combo of power/looks/price.
Might I add that the quality, fitment, value is top notch. This intake will not disappoint.

Yup! Typhoon (K&N part number 68-6546TWR). $300 shipped to Colorado, no tax. Ordered on a Tuesday arrived Friday. Quality and fitment is perfect, K&N makes good stuff. Considering retail's $475 or so it's the best $300 I've spent in a long time... Im sure the store can hook you up with the same or similar price depending on where you live. I can take a pic of the car if you'd like.
