Question T-case die on me

I was driving the car 3 days ago and i heard some noise in the transmission. Suddenly the car just rev-ed but i could not put it in gear. I pulled over the car and i could smell something burning. I tried to start the car again and it would just rev and i could not put it in gear.

I towed the car to the shop and 2 days later they found out that all the oil in the transfer case was out (empty) and all the gear were F%%ked up.

I have to order a new t-case from shep for $3350 shipped (which i thought was not very bad considered it equals to a stage 2 modded t-case)

i will get the t-case install in 2 wks and see how it goes.

Question is what cause all the fluid to leak out from my oem t-case?
What can i do to prevent this in my new modded t-case?
is this a common problem to evo x?

What shop did you take it to? Who did you'r clutch install and how long ago? Also I saw that last August you were asking about X's burning oil. Have you been smelling burnt oil for a while? You ever see oil spots under your car?

I don't see any way the oil could just all leak out without you noticing a lot of oil spots under your car. It would have to leak out the drain plug and should be obvious by looking at it that there was a lot of residue around it.

I've heard of them fail from being overfilled with oil from the factory...this is the first time that I've heard one go dry. I'm sure that there are internal seals that can be damaged.

How many miles on the car and have you ever changed the fluids? I just changed mine at 15k since I'm not easy on the car.

The answer to your question is that this is a rare problem. I wouldn't think it'd happen again.

Does the X's have the same o-ring as the IX's? To leak it all out would leave some trails behind

Angry

my car has 15000miles on it and i did the clutch when the car has 5000miles on it.

i have not check the t-case oil level since then. i have noticed a noise coming from the engine compartment since the clutch change though which i though was the heat shield. now i know what that noise is.

where do i check for t-case oil level? and how often do i need to check.

i just do not want this to happen again.

this car is getting expensive. t-case died now what's next?

Did Mitsu fill your T-case? That's how mine went on my VIII. Incorrect fluid, got too hot, leaked out from bad bolt tightening job... Then they said my warranty was toast. So ****ty. GL man.

The transmission and Tcase are separate. Normally there wouldn't be a need to check it more than every 15k miles. That is when I changed mine.

On the Tcase you basically pump fluid into the fill hole until it overflows then you know that it is full. Diagrams are in the service manual that is floating around the `net. I know that there are threads about this on the other forum, not sure about here.

sounds like improper installation.... how did they rule out your tcase being the issue?

its quite possible for the person who change your clutch to nick the tiny o-ring or damage the bigger seal.

Which tiny o-ring are you referring to?
