Cons of built bottom end

I know there are many reason to have a built motor for peace of mind and ability to hold power safely. But what about the cons?

Those running built bottom end, are you running into problems like smoking exhaust or large oil comsumptions? How is a built motor's longevity compare to stock bottom end where the tolerance are much tighter?

I would say one of the biggest PITA would be oil consumption. its so nice to have a stock motor that never burns a drop. Beyond that cant think of much

then whoever builds these motors is doing it wrong, i've built plenty of forged engines and non burn oil. burning oil comes down to piston ring gap, and honing stone gritt used on the cylinder walls.

The real cons are the maintenance, forged internals and high HP put more strain on the Cylinder walls and Bearings. so just about every 30K its a good idea to check bearings for wear, and cylinder walls for hot spots and distortion.

You'll have the headroom to make more power...which costs you more money...more power creates more maint issues...which cost you even more money...big power breaks parts...you guessed it big money!

All in all though if the engine is built right you shouldn't have issues unless you brutally rape your car on regular occasions

^^^ Better built bottom end = more boost = quicker tire wear = expensive undercoating = more money

Another way to look at it is wasted money if you overbuild the engine and don't use its capabilities. HP to cost ratio.
Or even another is overbuilding to prevent part destruction. Built in insurance.

I look at overbuilding as insurance but thats just me.

I agree, i like having the piece of mind that even though im only making 450whp that it will hold and not check out randomly one day when im bearing on the car. having insurance is nice, just make sure you do the upkeep maintenance required for it. it's a double edged sword really, but then again. this is what i always say "you gotta pay the cost, to be the boss"
