Driveline Whine?
Driveline Whine?
Well just got back from a trackday on the weekend and now I've got this weird whining coming from the driveline. Only happens at about 70mph with steady throttle input. Is this the famous Diff Pin issue? Or could it be a blown front or rear lsd? Just wanting some input on this car has 4XXXX miles on it and never had this problem before with other numerous trackdays and launchs on the car.

That was my next question. My trans fluid is just changed fresh with mitsu brand oil, which I believe is shared with the front lsd. I haven't changed my rear lsd fluid since new so I'am planning on doing that as I'm sure its over due. Does the transfer case also share its fluid with the Trans and front lsd. I was thinking it could be because of oil break down because the noise seems to get worse as oil temp rises the longer I drive it.
I had a whine at 15k. I decided it was "normal". It started making rattling noises at 20k. I got it warrantied. It was the transfercase. The whine came EVERYTIME I would put in throttle.

Reason I ask is because I have some weird resonance that happens at about 70mph. I first thought it was the drivetrain, but when i push the clutch in and keep engine rpm's the same, the noise is still there. I would think it would go away if it were drivetrain related.

I haven't tried pushing the clutch in and holding rpm yet but I guess I could try. This whine only becomes very audible at 65-70 mph when holding steady rpm's. If I load up the driveline and accelerate the noise goes away, if I let off the throttle and coast the noise goes away. So I'm thinking its definetly drivetrain related. Now it's just timee to figure out which part. I was thinking diff pins but I have no idea what the symptoms are for that problem. I guess I'll just start draining fluids and see which ones are silver colored
