GSC S2 valve clearance after install??

The valve clearance that is recommended on the sheet the cams come with is

- Intake .010
- Exhaust .012

Measurements after install where correct at .012 for the exhaust cam. As for the intake cam measurements they were anywhere from .009 to .007 which is what the clearance is measured at with stock cams in. I'm waiting to give Greg a call at GSC when he gets in on Tuesday next week for his opinion. I'm hoping that this wont be a problem, but if any one can chime in on this with info on weather or not my car will run into issues or is it something i can live with?

Thanks!

I have the kit that Ferrea made for ETS's shop car. It came with dual springs, retainers, keepers and spacers. I talked to Michael and they dropped in the same cams with this valve train and his tech cant remember what the clearance's had came out to (was 2 years ago when they were installed), but the tech said he never had to do any valve grinding or tappets. So im just assuming that my car will be fine, but i will for sure talk to Greg still just for peace of mind.

One thing I did was re-check my clearances after a few hundred miles and then again at 1000 and again at 2000, I had one that was an extra .001 or .002 out of spec (high) and it hasn't changed at all. That one was on the loose side though, not sure what to do about them being on the tight side.

The clearance might get looser once everything is broken in. Its definitely a possibility but I'm not counting on it to fix the issue. I guess if anything my intake would just be open for a little longer which hopefully wont be harmful.

Greg at GSC said that my car will be fine with the clearance that its at. The reason for the larger clearance over stock is in case of heat expansion. Since there is still plenty of clearance he said that it shouldnt be an issue, but if and when i do build the motor i will make sure then to have the proper clearance. Since I won't be tracking my car and using race gas i wont have to worry about my motor creating enough heat for it to become a problem. He also said that since i will be using e85 (switching tom. WOOT!!!!) that will help even more since it burns at a cooler temp.

Thanks for ur input scheides and thanks Greg if you ever see this.

No prob man! Those cams should freaking rip. I went with kelfords due to backorders from GSC but if I did it again they are definitely a great option! Good luck and go have fun with it!

You can't go wrong, as long as you go with the S2 or the 214-B cams. I am very very happy with the kelfords so far.
