ams downpipe purchased
ams downpipe purchased
well i finally bit the the bullet and got it. i must say props to maperformance i ordered it on monday and it was delivered on fri. cant wait to install it now all i need to do is get the test pipe built. hopefully i can have it build it this week and have both on before next weekend
The AMS downpipe is a work of art. Putting the downpipe on is a real pain in the *** though. Set aside a lot of time and read the write up in the How To section. I did it myself on my first X but had it done on the 2nd car.
Good call. I bought a UR unit before AMS started selling theirs. I killed the UR downpipe yesterday tracking it -- blew the weld apart and it's in two pieces now.
So I'll be dropping the dime on the replacement. Thankfully the hardest part was getting the dang stock one off and now that the bottom nut is no longer there and a problem, I expect the second time I install it to go a lot faster.

Sort of nervous about the weld I see around the flex section on the AMS one. Anyone ever give warranties on these aftermarket mods?

Sorry, but if you wanted warranty, but if you wanted warranty then why on earth did you mod it let alone buy a tuner car?
Sorry, jokes and keyboards sometimes get out of tune hehehehe.I added the DP after 16k miles, figured after that if anything did break, it would not be because it had a manufacturing caused defect, would be my own dang fault.
And since I had read -- after I'd bought and installed the UR -- that they were vunerable to failing as it did, I was not surprised. In fact, I took a few positives away:
1) I had already bought the UR, the AMS wasn't on the market so I bought something that did give me a good performance gain.
2) I would rather have a susceptible vunerable weakness fail on me than having it around my proverbial neck waiting to strangle me in a bad moment I didn't have planned.
3) I am finally consistently advanced enough of a track driver to have actually killed a weak part on my car that I had not yet stressed enough over a long steady track session to put down.
With that said, I'm anticipating the AMS will be as sturdy as stock, as good a performer as the UR. Just waiting til payday so I don't **** off my wife with too many wastes of dough in a one week period.
well yesterday i tried to remove the stock housing, i could not get the stupid bolts off the bottom of the housing. how in the hell do u remove the 2 bolts wtf. i want to do the work myself
Are you talking about the ones that are spring loaded? I did those little by little with a normal socket. Maybe try PB blast?
And the O2 housing bolts were mostly easy to access from the top for me.

There's a few write-ups on this. For me, I took off a couple of heat shields from underneath to allow me to get my socket on these. It's really not as hard as you think but they're blind and tough to get a tool solidly on with the right angle to be able to put torque on them to remove them. Stick with it, read a few more of those "how to" (might need to check the other forum) and continue to try. You'll get it and be surprised it took you so long and so many tries. It's do-able, hang in there.
One of the bolts you can get to through the passenger side front wheel opening with a really long extension (you need to take the wheel off). The rest of the bolts and the one single nut just takes perseverence (and some Red Bull / Coffee).
