I would recommend going ahead and getting you a intake and finishing your exhaust out to a TBE

You'll be sitting around the 320 mark then.
^ This. Look at my setup. Very basic bolt ons. ~320 at the wheels is about 400 at the crank. I did these mods all at once, so I cant say exactly how much the intake helped, but I think it does help overall power and responsiveness. As compared to stock, or stock with Cobb stg1 AP map, it is a VERY different animal.

To a point.

A lot of people will tell you that for FI motors, 12.5 is where you will find max power.

However MANY (me included) would consider running that lean to be dangerous.

Thus most guys run no leaner than 11.5.

a) it gives a safety margin
b) there isn't much difference between 11.5 and 12.5 in terms of power.

This is all for pump fuel, E85 is different again...

Agreed!!!

Without a tune, yes an intake would lean you out and probably not help much but the more air you get in...the more fuel you can mix with it and the more power th engine produces. Plus, with turbo charged vehicles intakes make even more of a difference because the filter can really act as the major restriction to the flow of air.

This tuner must not be very good if he is telling you stuff like this. Or he may not be good at tuning different intakes and therefore he is arguing against it!? Either way, you will definately see an improvement from a tune and intake...Those were the first two things i did to my car and it make a nice difference! I personally think the first thing everyone should do to their performance vehicles is get tuning equipment!! Then your future mods will be make to work together!!!
