Mobil 1 0w-40
Mobil 1 0w-40
hi..
If i were to change the lube oil now, while winter temperature 12-26 deg C, is Mobil 1 0w-40 the right choice? Previously 15-w50..
I have google about the codes, but still I cannot understand.. can you guys give me a link where I can read info about lube oil..
thanks..

Mobil 1 5w-30 is still Mitsu's recommended oil for most of the US (though some here have used 10w-30 in the far south, where it doesn't get very cold). And in Canada, Mitsu is now recommending Mobil 1 0w-30 or 0w-40 fully synthetic for the Evo & Ralliart.
If I converted your winter temps correctly (~50° to 80°F), that's pretty close to my summer temps here. I would think that the same 5w-30 would be fine, but hopefully someone more knowledgeable about oil viscosity could chime in with a helpful suggestion.

i guess you don't really need 0w40 oil in qatar. i'd lean towards api 50 weight synthetics if i were you, like 5w50 or 10w50. 0w is more of a cold climate stuff, it's not so necessary for you.
it's -15C now at where i live, so i'm running 0w40 in my cars.

.. dont want to waste it..
The only question that I would have before changing viscosity is whether this might increase the chances of stretching the timing chain and whether an oil that isn't what the owner's manual calls for would decrease the chance of the timing chain being fixed under warranty.
The M1 0w-40 is a better choice IMO over the 5w-30 as it has a stronger additive package (ZDDP) and a slightly thicker viscosity which would be ideal for people who beat on their car. Remember the M1 0w-40 is factory fill for many cars such as AMG, Porsche etc so use it with confidence... vs the 15w50, the 0w-40 would provide better fuel economy, easier starting at your temps. Overall protection under heavy load may be better with the 15w50 though.
