Angry Need help with tranny pull...

Hey everyone,
alright so i've hit a snag on pulling the tranny out of my X and hopefully someone can help!

I've got everything unbolted from the engine and whatnot but for some reason when i try and pull the tranny off the throw out pulls on the pressure plate and i'm just not strong enough (or something) to get it to loosen enough to pull off. I can separate the tranny about an inch and a half before it wants to snap back into place.

Is there a way to get the throw out bearing off while it is still attached?
what must i do in order for it to release so i can pull the tranny out?
(ive made sure it was in neutral, the tranny is loose but just won't pull out due to the throw out pulling on the pressure plate)

I appreciate any help anyone can give me!

I don't know for sure about the X, but on the IX you have to pull the inspection rubber out of the bottom of the tranny and pry/twist at the throw out bearing with a screw driver while pushing the clutch fork.

...I would bet it is the same with the X, I'm not 100% sure though, so I would verify before you try.

Another thing you may want to check is - on the IX there is an output shaft that runs through the transmission and into the transfer-case, and unless you take that out the transfer-case doesn't separate all the way. Not sure if this is part of your problem or a design on the X, but it's another thought that comes to mind. Good luck.

Check this out, they have a pretty good description on how to remove the TOB.

did you stick a flat head screw driver in to pop the TOB out? (as per the instructions by MAP)
