AEM CAI question

So I just installed an aem intake on my evo x. It has the same setup as the stock intake as it sits inside of a box and pulls air from the same attachment on the stock one. My question is will I damage the engine without getting it tuned? I've heard and read mixed reviews. Some say no because the MAF will sense its getting more air and adjust the fuel ratio accordingly and others say yes because the car won't adjust and will run too lean. I can't afford a tune right now so if it will damage my engine I need to put the stock intake back on. Any clarifications on this would be great! Thank you!

Not sure about the AEM one but I got a code for "Lean on Bank whatever" when I installed my AMS one. You don't need a tune to run CBE but for an intake I've always known one was needed. How long till you'd have enough cheese to get a tune? If not overly long better to be safe then sorry and just put the stocker for a bit. Also if you're gonna get a tune just stock pile a **** load of parts so you don't have to tune again and again….it gets expensive especially if you don't go to the same spot.

I ran my AMS CAI for awhile without a tune and it was fine. Only thing that really changed was the afr went abit leaner (10.3) and the boost jumped up a few psi.

My car isn't registering any codes after I put the intake on. It's going to be a couple months before I can get it tuned and save up for a few bolt ons. I haven't noticed anything bad after installing the intake, just seems to have a bit more power.

You should be fine, I ran mine for a year before getting a tune, everything ran normally, you should be just fine.

I guess like the other guys are saying if you're ok and nothings popping keep at it. However for the tune wait until you get some more mods before dropping the loot on a tune. Get more bang for the buck outta the tune.

I just installed mine last weekend & was nervous to see any codes pop up but so far, none has come up. I'm in the same boat as you are & as what the other members posted, I will wait til I get some more stuff before it gets tuned.
